The old school bloggers (re politicallly/socially minded one) have been in on this for years. Jim Boykin also offers his take on Linkbait vs Link Ninjas which is worth a gander. He makes some good points, but I think as far as blogs are concerned, Linkbait is often enough.

Re: Copernic’s Bouchard Takes Over CEO Role at Mamma.com

I actually interview there some time ago. I just read a post at HipMojo about how their President and Diller have so much in common: http://www.watchmojo.com/web/blog/?p=1244

Re: The Long Tail of Commenting: Never Blog Alone

You know, as often as I give people this very same advice, I never seem to follow it myself.

It's just so easy to get caught up in actually posting and trying to sift through your feeds and make sense of all the info out there, that it's so easy to forget the whole point of what blogs are about: discussion.

Thanks for the reminder, Doug!!!

Re: Did You Really Have to Make a Video for That?

Sorry you didn't like the clip, Tamar, but I think that this kind of blogging is definitely going to grow. After all, one of the rules of blogging is to keep short and sweet, and that can just as easily go into video as it can into writing. Just take a look at 1938 Media.

The written is great for how-to stuff, and for longer winded (re non-blog-friendly) op/ed stuff. But I think video is great a quick two-sense spot on just about anything. I mean, after all, you did watch it.

Re: YouTube Passes MySpace in Alexa Rankings

I'm not yet sure how substantive this is. When people are on YouTube, their eyes are "stuck" to the video player. When they're on MySpace, they're wandering all over the page trying to absorb information. I have a funny feeling that advertising on MySpace is still worth more.

Re: How to get Google to notice YOU by USA Today

I can only imagine that some of the advice they omitted was blogging. As someone who has covered news for blogs and magazines, I can attest to the value of a sensational angle.

Nathania,
Your point about finding a hook is solid. Journalists are so hung up on up to the minute that you have to keep pace with them. Personalized press-releases are also key.

I'd add, though, setting a kind of PR schedule:

1) Create a hit list of publications you want to be covered by.

2) Start realistically. If you're not multi-national, don't start with The Economist. Start with the blogshpere. Build a press/media archive from the bottom-up.

3) Court correpondents from your hit-list. Figure just "who" at which publication on your hit-list would be interested in what you're doing, and build a rapport with them. Comment on their blog if they have one. One way or another, build a personal realtionship with them. It's not who you know, it's how well you know them.

Re: MyBlogLog Tools

The potential of these tools really excite me. It read:

I first start by asking the person to imagine they have started building a building, from which they wish to sell a product or service, and explain that the building represents their website. Some already have a building, some are better than others, some bigger, taller, fancier, but everyone in this example has a building in various stages of completion. Then we discuss the importance of a good foundation for the building/site, such as the proper use and placement of title, header, and description meta tags, internal and external links, and the use of a sitemap. Next topic is the items required to properly finish the building, such as building walls, putting in cabinets, wiring, flooring, painting, finish work, etc. These building steps are also imperative in the SEOing of a site; finding appropriate keywords, creating fresh, unique content, link building, etc. In this analogy the search engines represent the building inspectors. These inspectors all are looking to insure the building is built to code, and of a measured level of quality. Each inspector might value certain aspects of the building, more than the others due to their opinion, but all of them attempt to take these aspects into consideration when determining the overall
