in Smart as Paint on The Technology Liberation Front
Counting the number of weaknesses an intelligent person can have does not indicate that it is not (or less) useful to a candidate. Surely there many other characteristics that a candidate should have, but this isn't a professorship or a middle management position. This is a Unique job within this government.

As for Palin's political trajectory. To me it seems circumstantial, and not related to here experience or abilities, other that to rouse a far-right republican base to get to the voting booth.

in The Incoherent Singularity on The Technology Liberation Front
It seems to me that you're assumptions about this event are slightly off. (Talking about the singularity...didn't read the interview yet.)

1. My interpretation is that these machines would have a way to simulate/emulate the human experience....thus exceeding our intelligence not our parallel computations

2. Of course we can't predict 2040....but we can do alright at 2009....most idea and/or stories I've read seem to bring predictability down to weeks or days

3 Not understanding the way google does something and not being able to understand are very different.

As for me....I think by the time it happens we'll have wetware and we'll be the machines.

in Apple Software Update on John's Blog
While I agree that the safari thing may not be the worst thing in the world. To me this is not the first time apple has done this. I stopped using itunes because it automatically changed my startup prefs, on quicktime every time it updated and it always reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device process even though itunes does just fine without it. They started forcing their stuff on us long before this.
