Well, hoop-de-doo.

Another iPhone app. Seems interesting that there are A LOT of us using mobile browsers that are not on the iPhone -- and that were around long before the iPhone -- yet the developers start with that platform on their apps.

Will look forward to other options when/if you do them.

Not bitter at all. Just disappointed that iPhone seems to be all the rave, yet there are many other phones/platforms that have been around longer. Very few people have developed apps for them -- and they seem to be an afterthought only when a new iPhone app is developed. Thanks for commenting.

Interesting... I've never seen that as my sole purpose (or even an interest) in Second Life endeavors. There are entire cultures built around technology in SL. There are scripters, builders, artists, musicians, audio engineers, video engineers, education programs, web consultants, etc. I know of entire community groups that only discuss and work in computer related technologies within Second Life.
If one can only find that the sole purpose is to get laid, is it possible that is the only goal that one had in mind upon entering this virtual world environment?

Christine, I've enjoyed both episodes so far.

This is the stuff that helps us all. When do you get the best benefit from a seminar or conference? When people are gathered in the hallway talking about the things they are doing, the tools they are using, the sites they are visiting!

You are all doing this. The rest of us are kicking back with our coffee, just over your shoulders, enjoying the conversation. Thanks for helping us engage.

Hey Jim, thanks for stopping by my site.

1) Your video lengths have been just fine for me as a viewer. I find that the content dictates the length. I don't think you have become verbose at all.

2) I've had several mentors in my life. And I agree with Chrispian. This is an important aspect of individual and professional growth that most people seem to overlook.

My mentors have helped me in all aspects of life, be it professional, personal, or in my life of music performance and production. I don't think I would have ever moved forward I had not involved these people in my life.

I absolutely enjoyed this video and the music from Matthew. I want to share an interesting cycle of connections with you regarding this.

In this cycle of friendship relating to this video:
I know a guy in Nashville that plays music and coordinates his marketing projects with a friend in Boston.

The guy in Boston studies with a martial arts master in Dayton.

That martial arts master is also the instructor to a friend of mine for whom I also happen to play bass in a band called "The Fries" in Dayton.

I find the connection remarkable and amazing.

Yes, I agree, Ed. I believe that the trust in social networks will definitely take a hard hit as a result of this situation.

I appreciate that you give the company some "benefit of doubt" by suggesting this could have been an error in programming.
If it is such... it surely should have been caught in alpha and not released until fixed. But, stranger things have happened.

I will not be using the service as you well know by now.

Wow Michelle. This post is phenomenal. You are absolutely right. One could record ANY of our (musicians that stream online) shows and have your very own copies. But how does that support us if you simply take what we give without doing anything to help the music grow and help new fans hear us?
Virtual Hot Wings is a terrific package of music and more for $20. And it helps support the musician so that he can continue to do what he does best -- Entertain others. Taking Matthews shows (which he does state is okay) is one way to be a fan for the music, but what does it do for him?
In today's world of DRM, corporate glut, and the inability for even the "chart-toppers" to make a true, reportable income, it is refreshing to know that the fans really can make a difference and that the artists are truly being rewarded for their effort.
"Random Guy" doesn't see the whole picture. But that doesn't surprise me. There's a lot of "taking" in today's society. There often seems to be little "giving back of one's self." People often seem to say "give it to me because 'I' deserve it."

I'm very late into this conversation, but thought I would throw in a few things.

I, like Matthew, often "supplement" my music income by doing works for hire. Podcast jingles, music beds for commercial stations, industrial training music, and of course, voiceover work. There can and should be a better model for those of us that want to send out our creative product to wider audiences -- while being able to generate income.

I surely don't know what that model can/should be. There are some great comments in this thread and some very good ideas. If they can be effective is yet to be seen. We would only know if some grassroots spear-heading would take place.

So, true, Matthew. I have rarely found outdoor events to be kind to my techie gear -- and seldom have I found that the planned outcome will be effective when bringing that same gear to an outdoor arena.

Without a tremendous budget for outdoor production it seems we expose our normal performance/production rigs to the elements much to easily. Now, if you had enough cable, a live truck with A/C, and some great gear-monkeys to share the burden of the work while you performed... this may have been a more tech-friendly performance! We can all dream, eh?

Matt says things out loud that I sometimes think about. And then, I've shouted my comments time and again to people that step on the soapbox stating they are "supporting musicians". They often don't have a clue about what it is the proclaim to be supporting. Or... they don't have a clue about what it is they claim to be "reporting."

I agree with Jim. Let's ALL (musicians) get together and start messaging/communicating to those persons that are doing what Matthew has identified. Perhaps if we build a "coalition of concern" we can get them to start asking us what we want/think.

This theme is great! Works well for your personality and your content delivery. I've been struggling for months to find a theme that fits what I want to "present" in my blog. I want room for widgets, too, but do not want to clutter the main message delivery. I really like this layout that you have chosen.

Interesting view, Chris, and one that hits home with me, as well. Like you, I know who I am and for which I stand. However, I'm involved in many projects, on many levels, and through many organizations/circles.

As a musician/songwriter/new media producer/community affairs and media relations professional/safety educator, etc. I find that my circles sometimes do NOT overlap. And yet, sometimes they do. It can be a challenge finding a venue to help me connect in an organized fashion.

I'm looking forward to hearing others' comments on how we can better group these connections to be effective and, most of all, efficient.

"It'll be better now, there's a turnover in the administration" or "Just wait a few months until X gets settled into his role, then we can make change." Baloney. This is a great post. I joined Twitter 14 October 2006. I had no clue where it was going -- and I'm amazed that so many have become power users in a much shorter time than I've been on. I use Twitter productively, I think, and have no concern whatsoever about the number of posts that I may have made. By comparison, I'm a low number tweeter for the time I've been on! But I don't leave it!

I am doing a presentation on social media to the National Information Officers Association in August. This group of police/fire/community public information officers (of which I am VP) is just now starting to realize some of the benefits/uses of Twitter and other micro-blogging platforms.

I've attempted to let them know that engaging in this environ doesn't only allow them to connect, it allows them to monitor what is being said and by whom. They can use it as a tool to gauge their community's involvement and ownership of what they do.

Nice post, Paul. I'll certainly keep this one in my file for possible reference during the presentation.
