in Ear Wick on Is There Food?
Hi Debbie,
Mine came out on its own. And it's one hell of a feeling of relief when it does, I can tell you!
Thanks to all those who've commented on this post btw. Never thought it'd still be acquiring comments after all this time!

Get well soon Cliff. It's amazing how many people have to have these things in, I'd never heard of them when I had mine!
You hit the nail on the head though: if it helps to fix the problem, so be it.
Good luck!

in WebFaction Versus Media Temple on Is There Food?
Hey, cool, we're neighbours!
Yeah, their admin panel is extremely slick once it "clicks". Definitely writing a post on that later.
It seems there's a hoop to jump through to get Wordpress sending emails too, which I've now solved.
Cheers for the comment Arun. This site should look a little different soon thanks to your latest release :)

in Review: Nokia N95 8GB Look And Feel on The Nokia Blog
I'd probably go along with the best phone ever, but it's not perfect.
Mine seems to have developed a bit of a smudge under the screen too. Most annoying.

I know what you mean Kevin - suspension of disbelief is going to important on that one I think.
You're welcome on the Shyamalan tip - after loving his previous work I so hope this is a return to form.

Yay! I'll hang on until post Zooomr 2008 then, and I'll retrieve my password. I intend to spend a little more time with Zooomr in 2008 myself.
Thanks for the comment Kristopher!

in Building PCs and Ritual Bloodletting on Is There Food?
Captain - I never thought of that; DNA coding your machine is a great idea. Imagine if it got nicked "yep, that's mine officer, that's a piece of my lower intestine right there."
Monkey - Has to be human, has to come from the owner of the PC. I don't make the rules.
Andy - Computers are, without doubt, a menace.
Ashleigh - Nice work :)

in Comparing N95 to iPhone on Scobleizer
I'll give you one big reason for buying the N95 over the iPhone: you live in Europe and don't have a choice!
We don't have the option of getting the iPhone yet, and nobody really knows when we will. Right now, the N95 is the best phone on the European market.
Personally, I think we might not see the iPhone over here until 3G is implemented.

in Zooomr to relaunch this afternoon? on Scobleizer
Kristopher and Thomas have been doing an amazing job of keeping their users informed, and interacting with their users over the course of the last few days. I have an understanding of how hard something like this can be, but I've never tried to it while keeping up a live webcast!
For a 2 man team who are trying to change the (photo sharing) world, they're incredible; an inspiration to the web 2.0 community. Critics have had their say about the launch, asking why x, y, or z couldn't have been done faster, better, or in the background.
At the end of the day, Kris is a 19 year old guy with an enormous amount of talent and enthusiasm. Thomas isn't even a developer; they've never done anything like this before, and they don't have years of experience behind them, so they're going to make "mistakes". Given the potential, and the cost (or lack of it) I think they deserve the respect and applause of every member of the so-called web 2.0 community.

There's a fantastic HD gameplay video on the Starcraft 2 site now. It's got a developer commentary of sorts too. This is now my official most wanted game!

in Wordpress 2.2 Upgrade Fun on Is There Food?
Glad you both got it working. Yes, I had to remove the old Widget plugin too; I was going to mention that ;)
I still love WP - it's the best of its class. But I dread 2.3 - the tagging changes are going to hurt, I just know it.
Still, pain of upgrading to 2.3 versus pain of migrating away from Wordpress...2.3 probably less work.

in Wordpress 2.2 Upgrade Fun on Is There Food?
I had to recreate them all. I went into the database, pulled out the old code, then pasted that into a set of new Widgets.
There's a bug in 2.2 that prevents PHP code working in Widgets too. Have a search on the Wordpress forums for "php widget", apply the fix to widgets.php, then use the ExecPHP plugin to recreate any php using Widgets you might have.
You'll also need to remove the old Widgets plugin.
I'd use the WP-Admin pages to copy everything out of your Widgets, upgrade, then recreate them.

in Web Host Fun (of MT and DH) on Is There Food?
Thanks so much Arman!
I really appreciate you taking the time to post a comment; that's phenomenal customer service. It's just that sort of thing that endears a company to me.
I look forward to the new GPU tool immensely (I dig that sort of thing). If you need any beta testers, please let me know.
Also thanks for the link to Cavemonkey50; the lack of a robots.txt file wasn't helping things here at Is There Food (and all the other Wordpress blogs I host). I'm already caching, and have already started to take steps to streamline the site.
I've also noticed the same problem with favicon.ico, so I've fixed that too, and left a comment on the other post pointing it out.
Once again, thank you.

in Ear Wick on Is There Food?
Ang - hope you're feeling better youself!
I'm on the mend now. Occasional twinges in the left ear, but I'm not using the drops any more and I'm really starting to feel good again.
And Raoul - Potatoes? Wow. My parents always used to say when I was little "you'll be growing spuds in those ears" (thanks to the wax). Maybe I should try that next time...

in MDA Vario Rom Update on Is There Food?
Stephen,
You may have already done this, but I'll reply anyway. You need to copy the enablerapi.cab onto the wizard, and run it. This will install it, and reboot your device iirc.
Once that's done, you'll be able to run the tool to unlock it. I _think_ C is the right option, but can't be sure. You want the sooperdoopermegaunlock option.
Have fun. I'll be posting about my latest rom soon...

Thanks for the well wishes gentlemen.
The wick is now no longer a part of me, and I'm slowing getting used to being able to hear in stereo again!
Now, if I could just stop feeling dizzy all the time, I might be feeling better.

in Nexo: Yahoo Groups Killer on Scobleizer
Nexo looks good, I'll give it that, but for messaging it lacks quite a bit in comparison to Yahoo! Groups. Unless I'm missing something.
There's no central store of messages, no email addresses for groups (ie send an email to mynewgroup@nexo.com and it will be sent to all members), and if you're sent a message, the reply goes straight to that user - faster yes, but there's no logging.
I didn't realise that Google had revamped their Groups though, will check that out next.

in Jason Who? on Is There Food?
That's a difficult one.
Would Der Hoff insist on attaching a red LED to the front of the Tardis? And reprogram his beloved time machine so it spoke to him with the voice of a slightly camp Englishman?
Thinking about it, watching slow-mo Cybermen running down a beach wouldn't be far from the carefully choreographed hilarity of previous episodes. Maybe they could remake the dreadful Cyberwoman Torchwood episode with Pamela Anderson...?

in Vista RTM is fine on the Mac Mini on Is There Food?
Sorry Sean, I don't actually have the Mini any longer. I'll be posting something about that soon. I tried one or two 720p videos while I had Vista installed, and didn't experience any problems. That said, I couldn't find any working sound drivers...
It's worth keeping in mind that Shuttle's recently released mini PCs - the Mini X 200 series - use the same integrated Intel graphics as the Mac Mini (GMA950). If Shuttle have created a machine specfically designed for Media Center, and built around this chipset, it should be fine.

in Vista RC2 + Mac Mini = Failure! on Is There Food?
xiaopeng - nope, not tried that. Come to think of it, I've not tried RTM yet. Must give that a go.
Ryan - If you're getting a Mac Mini, I'd get _at least_ 1gb of ram. That's what I've got in my machine, and I've found even that struggles. Much as I'd like 2gb, I can't afford it. Or justify it. I'll be posting about that another time...
