in Top 5 Places to find out about upcoming shows on HardRockChick
If you're a Mac user, you can also add the onTour widget to your dashboard. It has the same functions as iCal, being that it *first* lists all concerts in your area related to who is in your music library. Then it lists ALL total music in your area.

in Fool’s Gold Tour: Kavinsky, Kid Sister, A-Trak, DJ Mehdi, Peanut Butter Wolf @ The Roxy, 10/19/07 on HardRockChick
Nice on-stage video finds!

It was amazing how these kids knew what song was coming up just by the video that was slowing getting spliced in even before the song. It took me a bit to settle into the scene as I was adjusting to the crowd (not a bad thing by any means, just different vibe, look .... AGE), but it was worth it.

Kid Sister really did have a great vibe and unique sound. Glad I got to see her before she blows up (she deserves to!)

If we're going to talk about any sampling that was heavy, it was definitely JUSTICE (and I'm not complaining). Of course, the argument can be made that they're more timly than Daft Punk.

At any rate, if you're wanting to make French House DJ mix tape, let's just throw Cassius in the mix before they loose their chance. A Daft-Just-Stravin-Cass mix should all territories for this Electro French DJ era.

so.... i kinda had a crush on Tom Skold during the show. Which now makes total sense, as according to Wikipedia we're married. I knew he looked familiar ...

100% agree - totally one of the most entertaining show's. I hope he comes back soon! ... maybe play somewhere closer to SF ... without an 80s thrash metal opener ... with people who do NOT show their love of the performing artist by chucking their water bottles on them. Is this too much to ask?

in VHS or Beta @ popscene, 8/3/07 on HardRockChick
show some more love!!

techinical difficulties aside, they were still really good. THey do some of the best dance rock on my opinion. Top 5. And the lead singer sounds like Robert Smith with is neato. Of course I had earplugs which I think might have made the difference in sound. Popscene is small and I was way too close to those speakers for my own good. It must have effected your hearing because I usually agree with you ... rawr ;0)

i was ok with it being a test of their new album, more so because the lead singer was very open with it, thanked the crowd for their patience with hearing new songs (when the album isn't even out yet) and sprinkled in many hits from their old album. Plus i found out later that it was clearly advertised to be such a show (but I didn't pay attention). They're new album has a few slower songs that veer out of their trademark sound so we'll have to see how I like those after a few listens.

on the familiar songs though, you TOTALLY left out that the crowd was out of control! I haven't seen fans that into the music since Hot Chip or the Faint shows at mezzanine. I had to dance with the crowd just to not get knocked over.

in The Smashing Pumpkins @ The Fillmore, 8/1/07 on HardRockChick
The obscurity was a bit difficult to deal with. For the accoustic part, however, I didn't seem to care. Hearing his voice on such an intimate level was mezmorizing. I traveled back and forth in my mind between the beautiful talent I saw before me and what his sound made me feel in the 90s. Very sentimental.

I'm sad to say it, but I could hace done without the electric set (except the lighting was the best indoor stage I've seen). That kind of sound inside is already hard to follow at the Fillmore. And it's near impossible to rock out after already standing for 3 hours (on a weeknight) especially when I don't know any of the freakin' songs!

I realize he didn't want to do a 'greatest hits' tour and I respect that. I fully expected to hear a lot, if not all, of the new album. But he forgot that the relationship I have with the Smashing Pumpkins is from those brilliant albums: Gish, Siamese, Melancholy, etc. To pretend like those don't exist is to pretend like I'm not a fan.

p.s. I actually liked his hippie dancing. It made him look goofy and more approachable.

in blaqk audio/AFI…bands and side projects on HardRockChick
i, too, am not a big fan od AFI and entered the blaqk kitten page pre-disposed to not like it.

I've never heard anyone regurgitate Depeche Mode like that before. And you right again, the mid way through the song he raises his voice an octive to satify some sort of whiny emo craving.

the funnies part was the second song. If that's not a gay club dance song in the making, then I don't know what is. hilarious.

all this said, and i kind of like'em ... on some cheezy level.

I just love the clip they show with the cell phones. I want one of those just to display!

His voice really just shoots to the core of me. Still to this day, it's magnetic and emotional and dark. Plus he's still got a great pelvic thrust!

Just when we were about to complain about some 'lonley love' (I mean how many shows do we have to go to before you get some love for standing up front and singing along??) and then we actually meet Steve and he's all nice and shit. damn.

So there's a poll asking who Trent should hook up with :
- Shirley Manson
- Kelly Clarkson
- Dita von Tesse

I cannot believe that it's almost split 3 ways with 20,000 odd votes. How can people pick Kelly Clarkson for Trent? A commoner can't date royalty!

Two other major improvements this year to note : both crowd-related and out of anyone's control.

1) The kids swarm this events which is always a little overwhelming. I would too if I was there age so I cannot resent them for it. Yet somehow they seemed more manageable this year. Even cute. (as in adorable, not sexy. I don't do underage.)

I didn't have to look far for some 12 year old gonna-be-a-rockstar-if-it-kills-me (or my parents) kid. Very entertaining. Wish I was that cool at their age.

2) Maybe I was so entranced with this year's line-up and experience that I didn't notice it, but there was an astonishing lack of concert goers immediately donning the bfd shirt they bought upon entrance. Well done kids! Did you read my rant from last year?
