Agreed, Mark. How can we address issues of cyber-bullying among kids when we have adults so publicly doing just that? Raise money for programs educating kids about when the line between satire/humor and bullying is crossed. And leave some seats open for the adults.

in Why YouTube is going long-form on Scobleizer
Apples and oranges. I know a Scoble video of any length is more likely to contain something of value to me. But a YouTube video has a higher chance of being hardly worth the effort from the beginning unless it was recommended to me. So I'd rarely bother with a long video there unless I already knew what it was. It's not the length, originally, but who it's from and the subject matter. After that, the advertising hardly matters. Especially since I'd mentally be tuning that out.

@Chris

Yes, Chris, but you never sleep. And you blog, Twitter, Utterz, and drive several hours to work while doing all 3 - we have proof! :-) And I'm sure there are speakers for books on tape in your pillow...

Christine, great article. You straddle both worlds well. With a child on one hip and holding the hand of another.

You know, all this discussion is just a little too late. I was "found" by someone, with just a phone call, birth name and date of birth. Fortunately, it wasn't an unwelcome contact, it was a family member I had never met. But she got all she needed to know to locate me, even though I had moved and changed my last name. She made a few phone calls, starting with the local courthouse where I used to live. And ended with a phone call to me at my UNLISTED NUMBER.

Your data's already out there, and has been for some time. This was several years ago, and NO internet, NO computer was used. Just a simple phone and a little perseverance. Now *that's* scary.

in Social Technologies I Want on Chris Brogan
Yes, I want all this stuff. And I want it at a price that will not max out the credit card, and do so year after year as everything changes and makes the former obsolete - and I haven't even finished paying for it yet.

in WARNING: Do NOT load Quechup on Scobleizer
An interesting twist. I signed up, but when it came to the part of adding "friends", it gave a choice of email apps. So I chose the email app that didn't have anything in the address book. Problem is, it happened to use the same pw as the address I used in part 1 of the sign-up. Went thru the step, and Quechup told me there were no people added (which would have been true.) So I thought I was fine. But they apparently must have tried using the same pw with the address I used in step 1 - and also accessed the address book for that email - the used a different app! Fortunately, there was not a lot there. But definitely a sneaky move. And perhaps not exactly legal?

Very good. Concise, with a lot of to-dos to start an action plan. Thanks for the tips.

Something I learned many years ago -

"Never wrestle in the mud with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it."

People are people, no matter what the medium of communication. Sometimes angels, sometimes jerks. So just do what I'm sure you'll teach your kids to do. Bless the angels. Ignore the jerks.
