in iFart Mobile Hits #1 App Store Spot, Makes $9200 In One Day, Falls To #27 Two Days Later on GPS Obsessed
Hey there ifartmobile,

I'm pretty sure when I checked this morning iFart Mobile was #27 overall and #2 in Entertainment. I went to the app store now to recheck and iFart is now #18 overall and still #2 in Entertainment. Sim City is the number one overall paid app.

in Japanese Clueless Want Google Street View Gone… on GPS Obsessed
Lawyer not clueless,

I don't expect them to adopt my view at all, but I seriously disagree with it and think it's utterly ridiculous. I admit I'm no expert on Japanese law, but are you saying that publicizing a photo of a wanted criminal is against human rights? What about video of people walking by in the background of a Japanese new report filmed in a public place? It's all the same to me.

Krissy,

As for number 1, I probably didn't make myself clear. When I said "especially on public property" I was only referring to the sunbather and in that situation it wasn't on a beach. As for the man getting himself in marital discord by discretely hitting the strip clubs, he SHOULDN'T be doing it. He's married! Serves him right.

As for number 2, whether or not the video is publicly accessible, a person still doesn't know if they're on tape or who's watching them. Just because a person is "authorized" doesn't make them morally angelic. It's still the same to me. And the whole organization's argument is based on privacy invasion. Public or private, it's still the same thing, but like you said private privacy invasion is apparently ok. Kind of a double standard.

Dude, why are you such a cynic. Even with a slight delay, the information keeps getting more timely and accurate. And irregardless, it's great for route planning. "Real-time" is just a phrase, not a giant corporate conspiracy!

in Twitter: The hunt for a business model on Mathew's comments
Sure Google found a way to make money post business launch, but pointing highly targeted advertisements at a person searching for something is much different that throwing ads in a twitter feed. Look at clickthroughs Facebook ads get (I believe Chris Anderson wrote an excellent post on this)-horrible. People don't head to social networks looking for products or services, they want to connect with their friends. How do you monetize that? Maybe Twitter could develop an enterprise version, keep the API closed off, and sell it? I'm not sure.

mathewi I agree, Justin. I think those are exactly the kinds of questions that Twitter and its investors are probably struggling with right now.

Engagement and conversation is what blogging is all about, it's what makes it a valuable medium. I would think that reader engagement and conversation generation would be the best way to value blogs. Isn't this what the likes of Google and Technorati do by looking at backlinks and the relative value of those backlinks. In some ways, conversation is already monetized. People discuss your blogs, your search engine rankings rise, driving traffic and ad revs to your site.

in Era of blogger’s control is over on Scobleizer
Definitely a big believer in openness and portability when it comes to online discussion. Those that are worried about fracturing blog comments are way to worried about blog monetization. They should take a look at what's going on in other spaces and realize that comment fracturing could pay off big time in the end with huge traffic returns from the likes of Friendfeed and Twitter. In fact, my plan this weekend is to start experimenting with Tumblr which allows no comments at all!

in On conversations everywhere on Zac Echola is muffin but trouble
This is just the next step in the evolution of new media. Just like traditional journalism does everything it can to discredit "amateur" blogging, the blogosphere is threatened by the advent of micro-blogging. It'll never end.

in Real Mind Control: The 21-Day No-Complaint Experiment on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
I've done a similar experiment in the past relying on a Bible verse (which one I can't remember) that said to do everything as if you're doing it for God...and don't complain. I found that without complaining, tasks that I'd normally found unbearable became much easier and if I really got creative in my thinking I could even find some joy in accomplishing those tasks.

in The Top 5 Reasons to Be a Jack of All Trades on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss
Broad ranging interests and knowledge are the keys to innovation. There was an article in the New York Times a while back that talked about the home libraries of some of the world's biggest CEOs. Steve Jobs was one of the profiles. What were they reading? Try classics. Steve Jobs doesn't read all of the management and programming stuff you think he does. He reads stuff about life and effective principles for living. Learning "fundamental truths" and applying them to your business will help you succeed. The broader the range of skills and knowledge, the more interconnectedness of ideas, the more innovation, the more success!

I don't think this will have much effect unless the user's are visible players on the internet with a favorable reputation. If Mashable used it to recommend products applicable to their theme, it might work!
