At least, from a criminal/legal POV. Siempre, may kasong haharapin ang namumuno ng show dahil talaga naman na may breach ang security. According to the fact-finding committee that was set up for this case, there was not even a written security plan for the show. Only three guards were stationed at the gate before the stampede occured while most of the 100 or so security details were stationed at places where there security was less needed.

Isa pa, alam na ng ABS na maximum of 19,000 lang ang capacity ng ULTRA but by Friday, there were already around 50,000 people lining up at its gates. Bakit hindi sila nagtawag ng mas maraming guwardya, pulis at kung ano pa na sana ay nakatulong sa seguridad? Why did they still encourage people to stay outside Ultra if they already knew that they would have to prevent the majority of these people from entering the venue?

On a sociopolitical/cultural note, we cannot avoid touching on poverty, mendicancy and Pinoys' obsession with showbiz. If they had--or knew how to have--better things to do with their time, I don't think that they would risk being crushed at the gates of Ultra. Pero medyo labas na iyan sa usapan ng kung sino ang dapat managot sa nangyari. Negligence pa rin ang focus ng kaso so whoever should have taken care of security and overall event management would find themselves in prison.

I am neither kapuso nor kapamilya. I hardly watch either of the stations' programs but on those rare occasions that I find myself frying my brain in front of the tv, I still see that the same self-serving "news", spins and controversies are being shown by both stations.

Re: Wowowee Anniversary Stampede Kills at Least 70

There is no single reason why Saturday's stampede occured. It could be blamed on Filipinos' desperation to get out of the quagmire of poverty; they would grab any chance that offers any hope of improving their lot. The tragedy may also be blamed on the mendicancy of those who, instead of wasting days and nights in front of Ultra waiting for the gates to open, should have looked for or performed their jobs. At least they should have tried. It may be blamed on ABS's penchant for exploiting the poverty of its audience base--the masang Pinoy. Time and again, they nothing but mind-numbing programs, false hopes through gambling, entertainment in the forms of midgets dressed as bees and women girating in skimpy attire in front of the camera, inanity masked as ponderings on the meaning of life. (And while I'm at it, let me ask when will *BOTH* ABS-CBN and GMA give the public the kind of programming that it needs and deserves?) The gragedy may also be blamed on the crowd who pushed their way through at the cost of dozens of lives of others just to get to the stadium. Even those who goaded Willie to push through with the program may also be blamed for being insensitive to the deaths of many. It may also be blamed on Willie who throughout his TV career has done nothing but demean women, talk down to the game contestants and insult the public's sense of propriety. In the case of Wowowee, he was culpable for fostering false hopes among the show's viewers. That was his part in the tragedy. The government--whether led by GMA or those before her--can be blamed for neglecting generations of Filipinos and leaving them in the hopeless states that they have always found themselves in.

It is not enough for ABS to pay for the hospitalization of the injured and burial for the dead. As the show's organizers, coordination with authorities, minding security details and broadcasting safety procedures upon forseeing 25k to 30k people gathering in front of the stadium that could only contant 17k to 19k should have been done in the first place. It is not enough for the government to investigate the case. Call upon those who are responsible for the tragedy to answer for the lack of security measures that resulted in deaths and injuries. It is not enough for Pinoys to hope that their lot will improve through dole-outs from TV networks and joining game shows. Life happens when you're lining up to TV stations and life may also be taken away by crowding into shows that dangle prizes like meats to be devoured by the hungry.

Re: How To Blog

Great post! When people say that content is king, I take it that it at least has to either entertain or educate/inform me. Unless your visitors know you personally, then you won't be able to hold their attention for long and repeatedly unless you offer them something that will enlighten them. That's why How-To blogs are popular.

Re: You Should Have Come: The Epic Eraserheads Final Set @ ClickTheCity.com Music

The most significant band in the Philippines since the '90s
