Nathalie Lussier Awesome. I just read your "being a parent" post and it literally broke my heart. Your writing really struck a cord with me.

in Not for the Numbers, but for the Game: Friending on Social Networks on JosephHsu.com
"Just because they use the word “friends” in the app, does not mean your network has to consist of friends only." I agree. These applications use the term "friend" VERY loosely.

Joseph Hsu I believe it's definitely a better choice than using 'connect', 'add to network', or 'follow' in a social network because these seem just... so dry and fits in the context.

For simplicity sake, it's a lot easier to have such a general word than several words and have people digress from the social network's purpose. Like in programming, they say "convention over configuration"( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_over_Co... ) to keep things consistent and simple, but still flexible (flexible with our interpretation of the term "friends").

in Are People Born Evil? Or Made That Way? on DCFemella: Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
I believe the vast majority of people are kind (even though we all have an evil side too). But some are indeed born evil, or with evil tendencies. Combine that with a rough childhood and you have your typical criminal.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that science shows criminals' brains are different.

dcfemella You know...You are right! There was a study done about how criminals' brains are mapped differently.

I just googled, and this what I found:

in Why Are Some Old Women So Bitter and Catty Towards Younger Ones? on DCFemella: Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History
Not everyone is like that. I'm old (37) and not bitter. :)

I think it depends on whether you're happy or not.

BTW, while older men may not be "catty" towards younger men, I think there's definitely jealousy and a fear of being pushed aside and replaced. So it's not just women.

dcfemella That is why I said some because I don't think all women do this.

Maybe with older men it comes in the form of a mid-life crisis?

I stopped writing daily a long time ago. It was too much work. I now publish twice a week which is plenty for me.

in bubble dumpster - Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede on bubble dumpster
"When we start having consumer casualties, isn’t that a warning sign that there’s a problem?" - yes, and even more disturbing to me was watching our local news last night - they covered Black Friday and the piece about the man killed was tucked amongst other pieces on Black Friday. It was not highlighted in any way and there was no serious discussion about it. Sad, and scary.

in Eating Fruits to Save Puppies on Billionaire Woman
I agree with Nicholas: people try to find easy fixes. They go for things that sound quick and exciting. Eating healthfully and exercising regularly are not as exciting as taking "magic pills".
