Some of them have worked, some haven't, all were worthwhile to attempt.

I would never claim to be a great networker but I just cannot support something which uses phrases like "demobar-style event" when the organisers never even had the manners to contacted the people (no, I'm not one of them) who ran the first wildly successful demobar event. This is networking 101.

Unfortunately despite the great intentions, TechLudd looks like it may factionalise the community rather than be a useful complementary addition to what is going on already.

Re: Why TechLudd should stop before it starts - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist

Marcus I love the sound of your discussion style meetup.

No-one needs permission to do anything but we all live in the same community so communications and networking (no not Facebook invites) are critical.

But when someone announces an event which is an almost carbon copy of the one run by Web2Ireland without making any contact whatsoever (and given the last part of your comment) then expecting everyone to just line in behind you is unrealistic.

If anyone has any issue with Web2Ireland, maybe they should voice it and try to improve it rather than snubbing those who put huge time and effort into helping the community.

Re: Why TechLudd should stop before it starts - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist

Superb idea Marcus, I'd love to see the three perspectives - the startups, the VC and the Press.

And maybe even *cough*, EI :-)

Perhaps the first one could be used to enable to community to voice what they'd like to see in general with networking in Ireland.

Re: Why TechLudd should stop before it starts - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist

As long as the curry is good :-)

Re: Lets create the Ireland Inc. brand and stop talking about it - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist

Sounds good. We want to provide as many ways as possible for people to write reviews so that they can be found.

But the critical difference with us is that we always point to the source. We are not trying to silo anyone's opinions, knowledge or expertise, we're trying to give them a bigger audience.

All of those who have tried LouderTweets so far have been surprised by much detail you can fit in a 140-character review!

Just add "review" as a friend and send a review like so:

@review 5 Mashable web-site. You add a simple browser bookmarklet to your links bar which you click whenever you are reading a blogpost whose comments you want to track (you don't have to write a comment).

Any new comments in those posts get added to your RSS feed for tracking. In another start-up we were all sent over for "training" to our customer for 5 months. No-one seemed to mind and it was win-win all round. Not sure if we needed formal visas or just the right phrases in the airport :-)

Actually, this could easily be considered real training for visa purposes.

Re: Trackbacks now working

Paul, it won't break existing posts but it will break any links on other blogs to existing posts, which is a concern.

I prefer the date/name permalink approach too. Fast, efficient, cheap, great support, awesome connectivity, great tools, no downtime when power goes out in San Fran :-)

Using EuroVPS for VPS and don't see much performance gain over shared hosting so won't be renewing.

Using Webfaction for shared hosting due to Python and Ruby friendliness.
