I think one problem might be that the people who are making the shows are ignorant, unintelligent people who don't know any better. If you leave television programming up to children then you would get a bunch of poop jokes and childish crap. If you leave entertainment up to ignorant and unintelligent people then you get ignorant and unintelligent crap. We need to seek out more intelligent entertainment. Maybe we should turn off our tv's and turn to the internet or books instead.

Hey, maybe HBO can make it into a miniseries. They tend to do a good job with that the way they did with Dancing in Seeptember, Disapperaing Acts, and that movie about AIDS starring Queen Latifah.

I heard something about the UN deciding to go into Darfur but I didn't hear anything about it in the mainstream news. I heard it would take months for them to get prepared for the job but that they are going in.

I think if the swearing and N-word were edited out it would be better.I just can not tolerate the use of the n-word as a synonym for Black male and I never will. I don't like the guns shooting books. I don't like the woman shaking her booty. I don't know. I think that they could have made it like a hip hop video without the guns, n-word, or cursing. They don't even play music videos with guns in Canada. I think they edit them out. I think they are editing out the "b" and "h" words too and I don't miss them at all. The edited out the "n" word for a long time before that I think.

But in Canada a video without guns, the n-word, or cursing is considered a hip hop video. Videos that have those things are edited or they are not played at all. I think in the US what is played is different so when I saw the video I just saw a bunch of unnecessary stereotypes that I don't even see in music videos. I agree with what someone in the interview said, if the cursing, n-word, and video were removed then it would be a cool song. There is already an alternate version of the video that shows the covers of books. I think that is much better...but not as entertaining as a cartoon of course.

You know what...Let them screw themselves over. When they start saying they are a valid alternative people can just point to these incidents. They are making themselves less appealing to people of colour and just showing who they really are. I don't think that the Republicans are winning any more Black fans because of their behaviour.

I'm really pissed about this stupid OJ thing. Right when the media is focusing on incidents of excessive force and the Jena 6, and people are mobilizing to take back our image this stupidness happens. Did Anderson Cooper have to devote an entire hour to O.J. last night? Did they have to do a "where are they now" segment about the people who were involved in the murder trial that has nothing to do with this? Once again the mug shots are going up too and the media is actually comparing the old and new mug shot!

This stupidness is setting us back. They are asking if O.J. is a sociopath and you know that they are going to generalize that to all Black males who have been arrested more than once. They are going to let this dominate the news just when we are confronting justice and stereotypical media portrayals of us. Why did this have to happen at all especially now???

I agree that Black-owned media is important. Even the slightest link to a story on a popular blog can be a big deal. We have to stop ourselves from being like the mainstream media. We have to keep our stories at the forefront even if other people claim doing so is racist (its so annoying when they say that. Its like you have to listen to the news that we give you even if it is never positive news about you). I'm feeling optimistic right now though.

I watched the press conference. It started out with the DA thanking the police departmennt because without them the protest would not have gone as smoothly!!? It did not occur to him for a second that maybe the protesters are civilized people who did not want violence. Its the white hate groups who are calling for violence. Do the hate groups believe in the same god?

I think that this is due to the pressure of the public no matter what the DA says. Hearings would not have been called so quickly and press conferences would not have been help if it wasn't for the protest. So when he said the protesters had no effect on his decisions I don't believe for a second that's true.

I was going to watch a documentary about Nefertiti last night. I changed the channel when I say they had light-skinned Arab looking actors playing Nefertiti and Akenaton. I'm so tired of this crap. Any idiot who looks at a map can see Egypt is on the continent of Africa. The world has been thoroughly brainwashed but I hope more people have come to realize this since you were a child.

Wow that is really profound. Its so true. Love is sticking with something even when it hurts you and doesn't want you. That doesn't mean people can't ask for the hurting to stop. Maybe those who don't complain don't understand the first thing about oppression or history's effects on Black people. Great post.

If Hillary is the nominee only then will it be like Zimbabwe. Because then the person who followed all the rules and got the most votes would have lost. Hillary would have won by using dirty politics including counting delegates from a state where the other candidate wasn't even running. That would be cheating the voters. This person is definitely unfit to lead the US.

His church may be unashamedly Black, but did everyone actually expect Obama to be all Black power all the time?
He's going to have to balance what he shows about himself so that he can please everyone. He can't just try to please Black people all the time and alienate the non-Black people. He also can't try to do everything to please White people while ignoring Black people.

Its sad that he was forced to leave his church because it was hurting his church and his reputation, but it was a major distraction. I just want to know how many people would rather he gave up his run for president rather than the church, because basically that was the choice he needed to make. Did everyone really want him to give up the race? He had to choose so that he could please everyone. He might have to throw Black and White people under the bus. Do you really want him to let down all his supporters and lose because he continues to associate people who say something inflammatory? He has to please everyone! Maybe he won't be the Great Black Saviour, but a guy like that would never be elected.

Anyways...Hillary was so ungracious and unpresidential in her speech its really sickening. The goal post keeps moving for her. Her supports say she will concede when Obama gets enough delegates and she doesn't. I won't be fully happy until he concedes.

Obama's speech was perfect, presidential, inspiring, amazing, wonderful, hopeful, and just fantastic. He is a born leader!

Won't it be great when Obama wins and people who write things like this can be shunned? I hope that's what happens. I hope that after he wins no one will ever underestimate a Black person again. I hope that all people, Black and non-Black will become interested in Black people and their accomplishments, and more understanding of their struggles. Even if Obama isn't personally involved in making these things happen, maybe other people around the world will take it upon themselves to make it happen

I see this as the media playing Black activists against each other to distract them. The mainstream likes the conflict and it would be great if Black activists were distracted by infighting instead of working on their goals. They want Jackson and Sharpton to retire and not have young supporters. They want bloggers to stay unknown with no visible leaders so that they can be ignored by the media. Who's really causing this argument? So Jackson said something, bloggers have said MUCH worse about him. Old and new activists have their differences and it goes both ways.

But I don't see why that's a problem. Let Jessie and Al do what they want and bloggers just do what they want and it might be different things. Do we really even know what everyone wants? Does the old guard want bloggers to stop blog activism and join their groups instead? Do bloggers want Jessie and Al to retire and for the NAACP to be disbanded? If not then what's the problem? Everyone can just do their own thing, work together when they want and do their own thing whenever they want. You're free people to protest and organize however you want. Whoever does the job best will survive and get the support. Both old and new activists have caused a lot of noise about 'scraps' so thats not only a problem for the old activists. So if this was a test I would just say, its better keep your eyes on your own paper and on what you have to get done and don't worry about what your neighbour is doing. Doing your own thing in your own way may be the best solution.

Good lesson! Whenever they mention polls they should ALWAYS mention where previous candidates have fared on the same polls. But then I don't think the commentators will have much to talk about. They love the conflict and want it to seem like a tight race the whole time.They are also trying to make it seem like Obama has many barriers to overcome because he is Black and they are attributing his poll numbers to the fact he is Black. It is really disgusting.

I agree with the idea of making a DailyKos type site that will become the centre for African American political blogging. This is really needed and you have so many subscribers already, it will have many visitors and potential bloggers. A place for conversations would be good too. This should be the place where people go to find out the Black opinion on politics.

What I like most is that there are frequent postings about things I want to know about. Its from a Black perspective of course. What I like least...I think the background and site could have more stuff, more features I guess.

I'm so happy Obama is inspiring people around the world. I know that just the act of having him win will change the way Black people view themselves and the way non-Black people view us. Maybe our young people will strive to go into community service and politics instead of the rap music industry, basketball, or football. Could you imagine that? Its amazing that this role model comes from a single parent home like so many Black people, yet he used education to get to where he is today. People will see that entertainment and sports are not the only possibilities for us and that you can use education to help your community.

Excellent post! This whole ungrateful thing has been on my mind since the attacks began on Michelle. I just don't understand why some people don't understand what Black people have to be upset about. Unless they are shut up in a dungeon or something, then they know about the desparities between white people and black people, yet they keep acting like those things don't matter. I read somewhere that they think Black people should just be grateful that they can live in the country and that they are not getting lynched everyday, or being forced to be slaves, so they should just be grateful for that and shut up. Its totally irrational and it just serves the purposes of people who are trying to maintain their power.

I just wish these people would stop trying to be politically correct and just come clean and say "We want white people to have the most power and wealth in this country. We believe the negative stereotypes and lies that have been told about black people. We just didn't say anything about them but inside we hate these people and want them to go back to Africa because they are not really citizens like us. They need to be grateful for us for letting them live here and for considering them to be human beings". This is what they are thinking and this is what motivates their comments! But fortunately there are some people who don't think in this way and this is why Obama is the nominee.

Its just so frustrating that there are people around who still think in the ways I mentioned. So what if you are successful, we care about our brothers and sisters who are suffering, we don't just care about ourselves. This whole thing just angers and disgusts me. Is this the type of thinking that is fostered by Western individualism or something? I just don't understand how people can be so selfish and totally unable to see Black people as equals or to empathize with us. What is the matter with these people?
