in Movie Notes: Sunshine on Webomatica
Sunshine's been dangling in my wishlist on Vudu for a while now. I keep watching the preview and it's been attractive to me. Think I'll finally check it out this weekend. :)

I'd be interested in what you think of 28 Days Later too. But also, 28 Weeks Later, which felt more action-y than horror-y in comparison to the first film.

in MacWorld 2008 Keynote Thoughts From JC on Webomatica
I really like the ideas in the Macbook Air. Very tempting but my MBP's been really good to me. More than likely I'll stick with what I have. Time Capsule is neat and I'd probably pick that right up. Wondering if it'll be an easy affair to sync up my current ext. HD with the Time Capsule. I'm getting lazy with slotting in my current drive to my MBP.

in Problems Installing Leopard? My Quick And Dirty Guide To Major Software Upgrades on Webomatica
With most of my "at home" stuff on my Macbook, it was a bit gutsy (stupid?) of me to go out and buy Leopard and install it without doing any reading online. So far, all of the programs I use on a regular basis works fine. Only flavor stuff, like Shapeshifter, do not currently work.

Oh and backup? That's why I bought Leopard and an accompanying external hard drive. hehehe

Mmm... Everytime I visit Cali I always have to stop over at In-and-Out. Although relatives always get me hooked on others, like Johnny's Pastrami and Oki-dogs and the various Mom and Pop burger joints.

It's pretty funny to go up there and my cousins say how much they take In-and-Out for granted. Then they visit Hawaii and I'm saying the same thing about Hawaiian food and Zippy's chili.

in New iMacs, The Cellphoneless iPhone on Webomatica
One of us! One of us!

While I love my iPhone, the trekkie in me misses clamshell phones. Phoneless iPhone would be pretty good, especially with the touchscreen interface and built in speakers (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children sounds pretty good on the iPhone). The UI on an iMac or macbook though... That'd be interesting. It's gotta be coming.

Now here're some good complaints. All of them seem to be software correctable, too, so I hope they get addressed.

No confirmation from AT&T that my order has been processed, yet. "I've got a bad feeling about this."

I might end up raiding the Apple Store here if they restock this week, then when I get the phone from AT&T, I'll return that one. :P

It seems like roughly half of the person's gripes will be addressed later in the year if this post has any weight to it.

I don't blame people for thinking the iPhone is supposed to have everything and the kitchen sink since Apple kind of advertised it that way, but I'm left wondering why did they buy it in the first place if they knew it didn't have stuff they'd want?

It's like someone mentioned in a forums I visit... "Oh, the iPhone isn't water proof. There's this phone out that's water proof and if you wanted to, you could make phone calls in the shower!"

Uhh... so who wants to talk on the phone while showering? It's water proof but is it soap proof? A water proof phone would be helpful in Hawaii when you're out at sea, but is it saltwater proof? Does it float or will it sink to the depths (rendering its water proofability useless anyway)?

Griping that the iPhone camera isn't able to do macro shots? If I wanted to take fancy photos, I'd use a real camera.

Basically all the gripes about what the iPhone can't do, doesn't really affect the way I'd use the phone. And even some of the omitted features seems pretty silly to me.

Ah, no I didn't know you grew up in Hawaii. That's pretty awesome. I'd spout the usual "What school you went?" but it's not all that important in this day and age. :P

Yes, I was banking on the masses who've got their grubby paws on the iPhone to see if there were any deal breaking bugs.

It must have been quite an accomplishment for you to have avoided buying one. :) You sir, have more self-control than I.

From news reports, in Hawaii, the Apple store was (is?) the best place to get it. When the local news reported at 10pm, the store was still open, no lines and someone had just picked up an iPhone, though it wasn't stated which model.

The AT&T store I went to was near where I live and a bit deep in the suburbs. Figured not many people would be there but there was about 40-50. I was roughly in the 35 range and just before entering the store, they ran out of the 4G model. About 45 min. earlier, they ran out of the 8G. I am sad.

But relieved. If I had been able to pick one up, I don't think I would've had the willpower to hold onto it unboxed for my requisite 5-7 day wait/researching.

Yus, the 20 min. demo got my interested piqued to a whole new level. Self-control isn't exactly my strong point so... It'll be a challenge not to hit an AT&T store next week Friday.

"Someone will launch a web app or skin for other phones that blatantly mimics the UI of the iPhone so all the people without can pretend."
Has already been done to an extent.

"Apple will shut them down."
Ditto.

Oh no! It wasn't me. It was a NYC blogger I used to read. Her blog's caoine.org, though I'm not sure if she sells T-shirts anymore.

One of my most favorite T-shirts is one that's all black with white lettering on the front:
"I play violent video games and can snap at any moment."

tee hee. It's also got a barcode image and the URL of the blog belonging to the person who came up with the shirt design (and sold it).

in Might AT&T Screw Up The iPhone? on Webomatica
What I've yet to see is a slot to jack in my SIM card. Albeit, I haven't seen any latest iPhone demos nor the tech specs. One of the things I enjoy about carriers that use SIM cards if and when I get a different phone, I can just slot in my SIM. I tend to prefer unlocked phones for this reason. No new/renewed contracts for phones and a feeling of freedom.

I'm also liking the 3G. The first gen iPhone, from what I've heard won't have that compatibility. Then again, there's wifi.

It's probably a safe bet that the data plan will be mandatory. Not sure how the innovative voicemail box system works, but I can see them requiring the data plan to make that operate correctly.

While I'd love to get one, I'm going to do my best to stave off the gadgetfreak in me and wait for the guinea pigs to sort out any bugs first. hehe
