They do have time to fix their strategy and the twitter strategy is on the money. I like #100KLash would be ideal, and maybe even result in a trending topic. That's viral. Retailer brands have to understand that social media isn't free media. It's takes some work to develop a great strategy.

Re: When A Luxury Beauty Brand’s Social Media Strategy Starts To Fail

Great advice! I agree there is so much potential to generate buzz here, but what many companies don't realize is that having a huge prize doesn't guarantee your campaign to go viral. They have to support it with paid media and promotion. It's hard to get bloggers post about contests as part of the editorial, because we don't want our blogs to turn into constant free promotion channel. Buying few targeted placements on key blogs or their email lists are the best ways to get guaranteed feature.

Besides that I feel Twitter should be the place campaigns like this one get buzz. How about creating a fun hashtag (#100Klash)? Perhaps running weekly Twitter challenges or linking to the funniest video submissions could be a great start. This video alone is the best commercial a brand can ask for!

I think Lush Allure still have time to fix their strategy and turn this campaign into a success, and will be curious to see if they followed your advice (part of the social media "awareness" is listening, no?).

Re: How to avoid buying “vacation garb”

omg this is so true! you must see the Sari I got in India, never worn :)

Re: Pet Peeve: “Social Media”

Thank God someone said that. It's been like the elephant in the room (at least in my Twitter room, where every second follower happens to be a "Social Media Expert").

Being a social media expert these days is pretty similar to being a Hot Dog Eating champion - everyone can eat a hot dog, but no one as well/fast as you do. Still, this doesn't make you a marketing expert on Hot Dogs! You are just an eater, like the rest of humans ;)

Yuli Ziv
Social Media Muse

Re: Betting on Relationships

interesting fact - you got only female comments so far ;) I think it's important to nurture these relationships before you launch anything or simply need their help. there is a thin line between relationships that you create "to use" for your business, and the authentic ones. you have to give in order to receive, like in any other areas.

Re: Betting on Relationships

hmm... I have to add that even passing the 53,651 doesn't guarantee you "excitement" from VCs. We've got 250k monthly uniques without spending any marketing dollars when first started talking to VCs, and most of them still questioned the "scalability". I guess it's one of these numbers that's never high enough... The good thing about stretching the angel money was that we've been forced to develop revenue strategy from the early days. I think in general it's a healthy thing for any startup today :)

Re: Web 2.0 Week — What to do

Great!
