You find us *all* small and silly. That's your right.

Actually, originally the state was going to be named Columbia, but they were concerned that it would be confused with the "District of Columbia", so they went with Washington. *That* was a stupid move. Thankfully, usually the capitol of the US is referred to as "DC", thus alleviating the confusion.

Re: Franken Prevails in Recount -- Political Wire

Time for Norman to trade in those free pinstriped suits for prison issue stripes.

Re: Franken Prevails in Recount -- Political Wire

lol. He's also been a practicing attorney (which Caroline, despite her law degree, has never been) and run a successful business (which Caroline has never done). Caroline has been an education advocate, but she's never worked 9 to 5 for kids and had to face a teacher's union or a lot of parents pissed off at her for policies she instituted. You can compare her all you like to better qualified people, but all you're doing is making the case against her.

Re: Kennedy Likely to be Choice -- Political Wire

Good point. Appointments like this generally start with the assumption that the appointing Governor will not give full consideration to anyone outside his/her own party, thus eliminating many candidates who might be the most qualified and everyone is perfectly OK with that. If the US Senate starts splitting hairs and saying that sometimes it's OK to have a judgmental partisan process and sometimes it's not, that would be a very slippery slope indeed.

Re: Ritter Will Pick Bennet for Salazar's Seat -- Political Wire

Hey - where's the derogatory rant about him being appointed, but never elected for ANYTHING in his life?

You just forgot that, right? It is Patterson's best strategy to be able to claim he did what is by far "best for NY" if he appoints Kennedy. The groundwork needs to be out there for that to have any traction, so these stories will keep coming out until the actual appointment after Clinton is confirmed.

John Kerry chairs the committee that will screen Clinton's confirmation and says hearings will probably be the 2nd week in January. The ranking Republican has said that Bill Clinton will not be asked to testify indicating no more than weak token Republican opposition.

Patterson will appoint very quickly after Clinton's confirmation and resignation from the Senate to assure full representation for NY during the bailout negotiations and votes.

This well choreographed drama will be completed in less than 3 weeks.

Re: Bloomberg Aide Drops Kennedy Push -- Political Wire

There's nothing exceptional about that. From CNN Political Ticker:

New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a powerful Democrat who has questioned whether Kennedy is the best choice to fill the likely vacant seat, said Wednesday he will support Kennedy should she ultimately be appointed to the post.

"I have determined there's a good possibility she will be the appointee of the governor," Silver told the New York Post.
