It's FRICKIN' AWESOME, and as I was sold to QoS after the first trailer, I should have just skipped it and seen some of these awesome, awesome shots in the theater on opening night instead.

Re: Michael Caine Says Johnny Depp, Philip Seymour Hoffman in next Batman

First thing: I don't believe this rumor. Nolan himself said he wasn't set on the next Batman, so I don't think Caine knows s*it.

That being said: I think casting Johnny Depp and Seymour-Hoffman in the roles of Riddler and Penguin would be a tragedy.

When Nolan did the Joker, he was disregarding the previous Batman flicks. He did the Joker because he had a clear vision for him, and a story to tell. He also cast Ledger against type, who is more of a method actor, to bring the character to life.

I firmly believe that the third Nolan Batman DOESN'T need well-known actors. Especially not Depp, who, as fun as he is to watch on the big screen, is still and will always be Johnny Depp playing the Riddler, and not the Riddler. Seymour-Hoffman is a brilliant actor, but I don't see him bringing Penguin to life as much as inhabiting the role.

What I HOPE is going on is that WB executives are being asses, and are trying to cast big names thinking the magic formula is to reinvent previous Batman characters. What I hope happens is that Nolan tells them to fuck off, and creates his unique vision, which may or may not be about previous Batman big screen villains. And then he casts someone relatively unknown but talented in the role.

I'd much rather have the kind of casting that took place in Batman Begins (Scarecrow was brilliant) than seeing Johnny Depp going into overacting to sell us a fun but meaningless Riddler.

And I'm saying that as a fan of both Depp and Seymour-Hoffman. PSH is my favorite Hollywood actor.

Re: Rumor Mill: Will Smith as Captain America?

Will Smith is a good actor, but he suffers from Keanu Reeves Syndrome: he's overcast.

Just like Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage, who get cast into ANYTHING with total disregard for the main character, Will Smith has begun appearing in tons of roles that fit him poorly at best... Think I Am Legend.

Not as bad as Keanu (John Constantine, what the HELL) but still. Some people in Hollywood need to stop thinking "Will Smith" whenever they want to cast a fit young action hero. The only thing I like about it is that, maybe, skin color has become less important than talent and box office potential; but I suspect these producers greenlighting Will Smith this way think they are being clever and progressive.

Re: The official Kick-Ass movie website goes live

What I want to know about Mark Millar before I get excited about this or not is: was he happy with Wanted? Because although I thought Wanted, by itself, was pleasant eye candy, as a comicbook adaptation it was GODAWFUL. As a matter of fact, on the single criteria of how well it conveys the themes and tone of the original, I'd say Wanted was the worst comicbook-to-film adaptation I've seen.

So... Where did Millar stand on this one?

Re: Robert Downey, Jr. Trashes The Dark Knight

Haha. I admit THAT part made him look like an ass. I guess I meant that voicing an anti-DK opinion wasn't enough for me to dismiss him because I liked it a lot.

Re: Robert Downey, Jr. Trashes The Dark Knight

You know, I understand what he's saying. I disagree with it, but I don't think he's being a tool. Obviously, he liked playing Iron Man, and he feels his movie delivered to the fans. Then DK comes along and everyone is saying how deep and smart it is... I can see how, from his point of view, that would come across as BS.

Batman is about darkness. Marvel are about high fun. Again, I don't agree with him, but his position makes sense and I see no reason to lose respect for him over it. I just happen to think he's wrong.

Re: Guy Ritchie Has Action Plans For Sherlock Holmes - Reveals Villain Of Film

My god... I actually think it was one of the central themes of the movie, and announced way ahead.

As a matter of fact, Alfred can be credited for explaining this to Wayne...

"Endure. That was the real introduction to the Joker, and it is an act of such clean, hilarious and horrifying brutality that it sent a shockwave in the cinema. In that single instant, all other envisionings of the Joker were gone from my mind.

Cheap plug, but I felt compelled to blog my analysis of the themes of DK after seeing it... If anyone's interested, it's here:

http://www.alt-shift.com/blog/2008/07/21/the-da...

I'd love to hear what you guys thought.

Re: The Dark Knight sets single-day box office record

CNN says that The Dark Knight beat Spider-Man 3's opening weekend. They announced this on Sunday morning, which is incredible, because it means there's still Sunday's performance to tally.

Now with the kind of reviews coming through from fans and critics alike, it's time to see if the thing's got legs. I'm sure it will. I'm wondering how far it's gonna go.

Re: Watchmen Trailer Makes Early Debut

I am SO!!!!! excited about this. I was one of the people naysaying this endeavor; I felt there was no way Watchmen could be done on the big screen with a modicum of respect for the source material.

Then this trailer comes out... My god.

I think I watched it 15 times already.

Re: Incredible “Max Payne” Promo Photos

Well; I completely understand it's a matter of taste, and ultimately, it's only my opinion... But the fact I'm a fan of the game is a reason I'm excited about these shots. Then I look at them objectively and I think they look like ass.

Seriously... The bad snow, the weird angles of the fake-looking fire coming out of the guns... It looks like a crap Photoshop job to me.

Re: Incredible “Max Payne” Promo Photos

I know that very well... They still look very silly in the context of a movie photo. The fake fire coming out at weird angles from the guns doesn't help either.

Re: Incredible “Max Payne” Promo Photos

I don't get it... I think they look like ass. The side-jumping one with the fake fire coming out of the guns is just downright silly-looking. I understand they're trying to go for the comicbook look, but meh... It all just comes across as cheap, and is nowhere on the level of Sin City.

Hopes for Max Payne movie remain very low. Sounds like it's gonna be pretentious crap. (Huge fan of the games, by the way.)
