Lumping all learners into a digital native category can only help us to forget to teach them properly. By assuming young people know how to navigate technology, many do not teach them how to do so properly and in a way that enhances learning. Same thing goes for the whole &lt;br&gt;notion of learning styles. Worrying about learning preferences of &lt;br&gt;individuals is a bit of a circus sideshow to the real story: creating &lt;br&gt;solid learning situations based on what we know about learning, not on what we might or might not know about individual preferences that may or may not be applicable in any or all learning situations. This &lt;br&gt;topic is one I hold dear to my heart and I groaned out loud when I read 'digital learning style'. There is no folder called application. You may have missed out on the s at the end because there is one called applications. But it isn't there. All that is there is the Mozilla thunderbird launcher.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So I tried using locate in terminal. Here's the funny part. The file is located:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;[code]tracy@tracy-laptop:~$ sudo locate thunderbird.desktop&lt;br&gt;[sudo] password for tracy: &lt;br&gt;/usr/share/app-install/desktop/thunderbird.desktop&lt;br&gt;tracy@tracy-laptop:~$ [/code]&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But when I go there to find it... it's not there! It goes from Thunar to Tic-Tac-Toe. Nothing in between. I tried showing hidden files in case that was the issue, but it wasn't.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Any idea where the file may be? I purchased an itouch last summer on a whim. If I had known that Apple organized its products for the purpose of creating more wealth for itself rather than extending knowledge, I wouldn't have. For a while I struggled along with their system, I installed itunes on a virtualbox within ubuntu 9.10. Now, with ubuntu 10.04, I can use my itouch with Rythmbox. I am considering selling it and finding another device with which to listen to music and books. One that is less proprietary driven, one that doesn't depend on a single manufacturer for service. Wouldn't it be nice if everything could work well together regardless of who its purchased from?&lt;br&gt;Have you taken a look at 10.04 yet? The post was about processes for learning, methodologies - like how to organize research findings, how to take notes on what we learn, how to collaborate with others, how to make decisions throughout the learning process...&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But making connections with our students is certainly one process that may trump all others. Even so, I do not think it can be distinct from content. What is it we make connections around and about? That is the content.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Processes that I use for connecting - consistency in action, laughter, establishing connections (via group parent meeting and phone calls) with families, listening, being there. The content is the student, as well as the subjects I teach. Example. This year I am teaching art. I know that there are a number of students who are interested in graffiti art in my class. So I designed my first theme around that, Art in Public Spaces, allowing room for non-graffiti study for students who aren't interested in it. The students and their interests are my starting point content. I hook them through themselves and then expand.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I teach somewhat apart from the rest of our school but our school is trying to establish connecting processes as well. They have created a 15 minute block during the day where small groups of students (I think around 15) are with a teacher in reading groups. This is to instill, if not a love at least time for, reading in our busy days. At the same time it allows students to connect with a teacher around something that is not grade based.
