Just ask yourself about the 'joy of shipping' for the North American economy when our options are limited through the Northwest Passage... there aren't that many ways to get past or around the Globe. You've got:
- the Roaring 40s around Cape of Good Hope & New Zealand,
- Panama Canal.
- Suez Canal,
- Gibraltar,
- around Chile,
- through the narrow passages of Indonesia... (becoming heavily Muslim & radical, btw, ... my *personal favourite WITW is OBL* location... on a paradise island with his own satellite communications array, but that's just me... )
- South of New Zealand...
& THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE ... it doesn't get more basic than that.
