Thanks for the reminder :)

Re: Creating Your BOM Template

Hi Robert,

There are a couple of things you can do. First, you can cut and paste
the entire BOM onto another sheet of the drawing. Select the Cross in
the upper left corner of the BOM and select CTRL-X. Change sheets and
press CTRL-V to paste the BOM.

You can also split the BOM and paste only half of the BOM on a second
sheet. Check out this post on splitting a BOM:
http://www.theswgeek.com/2008/07/03/using-boms-...

Re: Video - Splitting a Part in SolidWorks

Hi James,

I sent you an email but a good site to check out would be my friend Brian Slick at http://clingingtoideas.blogspot.com/ . Then edit the form in the design library prior to adding it to the part again.

Re: Review: 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D Mouse

It's not that I didn't like the LCD, I think it is a great idea but i feel like it won't really meet its potential till some third-party developers get a hold of the API. Like I mentioned in the article, I found that I wasn't looking down at the screen to see my email or calendar events since I get on-screen notifications. I mostly leave the function key list up to remind me of the keys.

As far as setting up the function keys, the only mod I made was changing the one button to my Shortcut Toolbar. I did notice that when I opened the menu from the desktop it would reset my function keys to the default, which was kinda annoying.

Re: Review: 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D Mouse

Thanks a lot Lars. The site is just days away from its one year anniversary and I still feel really good when I hear from readers. Good luck on your dissertation and don't forget to spread the word about the site.

Alex

Re: Slots O’ Fun

Unfortunately, or fortunately, this post has been rendered obsolete with the addition of the slot sketch tool in SolidWorks 2009. It is still necessary, however, if you need to create a slot based on a compound curve.

Re: Using BOMs in SolidWorks 2008

Hi Wayne,

Check out the post http://www.theswgeek.com/2008/06/27/creating-yo... for the setting that in the system options that can be used to fix this issue. This does not mean that it is impossible, but I have never encountered a way. What are you trying to do? Maybe there is a work around. I will also continue to play with passing a variable onto an assembly and I will let you know.

Re: SolidWorks World 2009 - Never Too Old To Play With Toys

Thank you Jeff. I believe that you should always treat others with differing views as you would want them to treat you, especially in a public forum like the usenet. But now you have done the equivalent of coming into my house, insulting my family, kicking the dog and pissing in the fish tank. And for what? Because I want to share my experience and knowledge with others?

I am not a SolidWorks apologist. No CAD software is perfect. But instead of concentrating on the drawbacks of the most popular 3D CAD package in the world, I try to teach users how to use the tools available to them. It is not to say that other CAD packages are not better. I am sure there are others that would completely blow SolidWorks out of the water but they are not what I and my readers use on a daily basis. If you feel that your CAD package is so great, awesome! Talk about it, write about, show your friends...make the case for it's place in the engineering world...on your blog. Don't come to my blog and try to start a flame war just because I choose to teach SolidWorks.

I do not believe in censorship and I do not want to delete your comments and ban you but I must respectfully ask that you refrain from making my home a pigsty like you made alt.cad.

Alex R.
