I can't see how he was highly regarded. He barely played basketball at all before going to UConn. He was the quintessential definition of a project that happened to work out.

In regard to the poll, there's no reason to get angry over it. You took it WAY too far Coachv. Rather than let Alex defend his side of the argument, you slam him like yours is correct no matter the rebuttal. Poor taste sir. You are sounding like a troll.

If you think David Williams doesn't deserve criticism, then you are just plain ignorant. Look at what has happened to him recently, PPG in big basketball events, starting on his AAU team, etc. Nobody here insinuates that they are smarter than the coaches. Everyone understands that they don't. We work with what we are given, and not allowing someone to form their own opinion is just snobbish in my opinion. OFCOURSE Crean knows more than us. That's why he makes millions a year, and I can hope i make that in a lifetime.

Apologies, some people drive me crazy.

Again Alex, can't imagine the time it takes to run a successful and very lively blog. Thanks a bunch :D.

This is interesting. Im sure that about 75% of the people here were just sure that Irving was coming here. There has to be a bit of information we are missing. It just does not make sense to me, but I wish him luck, Duke gets a lot of attention. Indiana doesn't get as much as it used to.

But hey, Crean can compensate, if this guy can actually form a semidecent team out of a bunch of mid level recruits, I am sure he can convince some high talent program changing guy to come here.

I agree, and one thing Jerry definitely nailed is that we need to give Crean time to create that stability before we get on his case about recruiting. He's definitely working hard at it, I think he can get us there!

I agree, Indiana is certainly capable of that, and we know it, It's just that all those teams you mentioned have great stability. Even with the Roy Williams/Bill Self coaching changes, the coaches succeed and do well. The Universities know what coaches to hire, and it shows. UCLA is probably the best example, 3 final fours in a row is nothing to sneeze at, especially with all the talent that left the respective teams.

It would be great to grab Kyle, and if he commits, awesome, but let's be take a look at Duke (As much as I love Duke....). They are going to have a huge lack of guard depth in 1-2 years when Scheyer and company graduate, so Irving is looking at plenty of playing time should he commit there. The ACC is probably the best basketball conference in the nation(Opinion, very open to discussion), and playing for a team that's always in the top 2 is a very good motivator.

Now, Irving is also from New Jersey, and that's a long ways away from Indiana and Duke. i think a major factor here is McLeod. You can't underestimate the effect of having someone you know when you are far away from home. it just creates that feeling of security. Now, I could be wrong and he could commit to Duke or UK, making me look moronic, but hey, just my 2 cents,

HUGE that Kendrick is attending Elite camp this weekend. I know he is a highly sought after kid, so usually these type of players won't commit after weekends like this, but then again, no one really has a good grasp on what Kendrick is thinking. If I am KI and I am reading message boards about who else we are recruiting for 2010 class I have to be happy. Poole, Kendrick are headliners, Moses Morgan is solid and Victor is a freakish athlete with a lot of upside and would not be taking the ball out of KI's hands. The next month and a half are going to be huge for Hoosier basketball.

I heard that his performance at the Nike tournament may put him as the #1 PG in the class. They say he dominated the entire court. Sounds like a good commit to have :)

For every OSU, there is UNC, Duke, UCLA and Kansas, who all consistently have top-ranked classes and consistently compete for Final Fours. Many of their top recruits stay 3 years, not all, but many.

Again, it's about getting the right 5-star guys. For every Oden, Conley and Derek Rose, there is Hansbrough, Ellington, Lawson, May, Felton, Brandon Rush, Darrell Arthur, Mario Chalmers, Darren Collinson, Mbah a Moute and Aflalo.

It's getting the right ones. Crean can do this, and I'm not sure why we wouldn't want him too.

I have to disagree with this, based on the perfect example of this: Thad Matta.

After Oden and Conley left and after recruting 5 star after 5 star after 5 star, OSu has failed to make the NCAA tournament, and then got an 8 seed, in which they were knocked out by Siena. Now, Thad Matta's teams are struggling to have any sort of chemistry, which is pretty essential to a Championship team.

Recruiting 5-stars is good, but to a limit in my opinion.

DF is not a one and done and as we have seen with other programs you can find space for two 6'9 players on the court at the same time......I say we start a letter writing campaign to Law. North......they owe us for not getting Oden or Conely or Montross and the list goes on and on.....

First off, that's not even his position (see 6'9''). Secondly, who cares if it was? Don't you think they could both fit on the floor at the same time?

I don't think that Ferguson would be that type of player at Indiana, but that's very open to discussion, because I believe that Watford will take away a lot of Ferguson's minutes. I think that he would stay on the team basically because he wouldn't be as big of a star if he were at a place where there was no credible SF present.
