They would turn information over to the US Army Criminal Investigative Command. The investigation into Maj. Hasan would be CIC jurisdiction. However, the FBI would continue to monitor Hasan's actions and they would have jurisdiction over any civilian accomplices.

The CIA would likely not contact anyone. They would let Hasan get further into the spider's web and then try to turn him as a double agent.

It would also depend on Hasan's security clearance as to how the CIC handled his case. At very least, he would have immediately lost his security clearance, which means he would not have been able to work as a psychiatrist (because he would not be cleared to hear some of the things his patients needed to speak about).

At any rate, a great deal would depend on the precise details, which we will likely never know.

Re: When Voters Disrupt the Tea Party (Guest Voice)

Same in red state Utah T-Steel. Over 50% of our property taxes goes to education but don't ask for an accounting of how that money is spent.

I believe most states, and even at the federal level, need much better auditing system of where our tax dollars are going.

Re: Report: U.S. Intelligence Agencies Knew Hasan Was Trying To Contact Al Qaeda

"At this point people are jumping to conclusions and making unwarranted assumptions. 'Nuff said on that (I'm hardly ready to lay full blame on the President).

But it looks like the Army knew something was afoot but there was no action. Can a commenter or is a member or former member of our Armed Forces shed a little light on how this could have been missed or not actioned?

Re: When Voters Disrupt the Tea Party (Guest Voice)

That's close to what Indiana is experiencing. It's a "purple" state (actually something of a donut) that has a constitutional block on borrowing. In order to keep its rainy-day fund from getting depleted, while not directly raising taxes, they simply put the burden on the counties and made them do the tax increases. Politics is fun.

Re: When Voters Disrupt the Tea Party (Guest Voice)

Well I can tell you this much in red state Georgia, the dominant Republican state government is under serious fire for taking hundreds of fees and not knowing where the money is going thus strangling local city/county governments. Has many Republicans covering their own behinds here. So "government issues" is a bipartisan thing.

And regarding less government, red state Georgia wants more government concerning transportation since it's bad in Metro Atlanta and rural Georgia hasn't had any transportation "love" in years (unpaved roads, etc). So I think that more/less government is all about what a need is in a particular area.

Re: House Passes Health Care Bill But Future Unclear

Can't lie AR. Jerry Pournelle's piece gave my wife (who's a dedicated Obama supporter) and I serious pause. I see no letup in unemployment as well. Here in Georgia, 26 banks have failed since August 2008 and 50 more are in trouble. Georgia's heavy real estate angle and local bank protectionism has fostered this environment. But real estate is shot here and the financial system is just stagnant. All the while, work on health care has been the priority (which I feel it shouldn't have). I can't help thinking what $1.2 trillion "real" jobs bill introduced early this year would have accomplished (not a distributed stimulus bill like we had passed earlier).

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. Great. Keep up the lies. I'm glad to see you think that telling the truth about how our soldiers were killed is worth joking about. I'm sure the families of the dead will appreciate the fact that "possible" speaks for itself, especially since there is no possibility whatsoever that their loved ones will ever come back.

Yes, it's all nit-picking. Yes, there is no need to speak up. No, you aren't welcome here if you disagree.

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. I referred to your problem on me adding "UPDATES". But I remained consistent and did not change the title and will not. So you are playing games with me. And since I'm a jovial sort of fellow, I'll play:

One fish, two fish... Red fish, blue fish... Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone.... This old man came rolling home... YAHTZEE!

I absolutely ADORE a silly game. And regarding being cowardly, try this for size: the title "Possible Terrorist Attack at Ft. Hood TX (UPDATES)" stays. And if you don't like it, don't read it. And if that isn't good enough for you, don't come to this web site. And if that isn't good enough, have a coke and smile!

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. You're simply lying. If you change a title, you change a title - otherwise it isn't changed when you're done. I want the title to change because it is lying. It is FACTUALLY WRONG. Nice to know you think that not lying about our soldiers is nit-picking.

WTF? Forcing anyone to read anything? Honestly, isn't that just a cowardly way to tell me to get the hell out of here? Why not simply be a man about it and say it outright? Oh, I supposed that's nit-picking, too. Yes, wanting people to speak honestly and openly about things is a nasty little habit I picked up. How silly of me to believe it might be important to you as well.

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. Your nit picking. I added "UPDATES" because there were updates in the author's post (she forgot). Something that we do add around here all the time. You wanted the entire title changed since you disagreed with it and we are not changing it. We don't force anyone to read anything here. Thank you.

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. If you added the word "UPDATES" then you edited the title. Wow.

As far as Israel goes, I'm not the biggest fan. I personally do not think that we had the right to force Israeli statehood upon a sovereign state that already existed - Palestine. That was wrong. Apparently, the majority of the world feels the same on that one - it's what fuels terrorist activity to this day.

Of course, now I'll be labeled an "anti-semite" for not backing Israeli sovereignty; just like I was branded a racist for not voting for Obama. I am neither and have logical reasons for both decisions.

Re: The Close NJ Race

Liberals prefer Hollywood glam points of the Susan Sarandon variety. Ross Perot, like him or not, did present policy solutions as an Independent. And your right Elrod, there is a sizable amount of wide-eyed paranoia involved in the movement as well. The key to a strong and viable third party is concrete solutions, charismatic candidates (charisma matters whether you like it or not), the ability to include rather than exclude, and or course money (yuck but oh well). I know long time Democrats and Republicans across all colors who are completely turned off on the Big 2. And a strong third party needs to be able to bring all those folks together. And right now, the current Tea Party Movement hasn't done that much. BUT I like the energy. And I think the more energized voters get in terms of looking at a third party as not crazy, then we will be on the path. But it will be up to that third party to not look crazy.

Re: You Mean, There’s More Than One Bill Ayers? So will I admonish conservative media for trying? Nope. Because liberals will do and have done the same with political lightening rods as well. Why worry about facts when you can stir up your respective bases? It's a tried and true routine that is quite tired in many ways.

Re: Political Cannibalism

I have to agree with JSpencer and DaGoat. Comparing our political leaders even in indirect ways to evil wackaroons such as Stalin, Hitler, Guevara, and Chairman Mao just makes things too nasty (as well as not being true). 'Nuff said on that.

The GOP has a big problem. Some Republicans feel that by default, 2010 will be their year because of the Democratic controlled Congress health care fights and Obama's struggles in certain areas. I disagree. The GOP has a growing political and ideological "insurgency" in their ranks. This political insurgency wants purity of belief and ideas. And they don't tolerate any whiff of "leftism" or "Democratism". Many conservatives here in Georgia (who have voted Republican) would happily watch the GOP go down in flames for one of their "own" to get into a political office. And the GOP can't comfortably corral them at this time. Since I'm a "third partier", I absolutely love this political insurgency in the GOP. I wish one would happen in the Democratic party as well. But the Democrats seems to have more stable ship at the moment.
