'Nuff said on that (I'm hardly ready to lay full blame on the President).

But it looks like the Army knew something was afoot but there was no action. Can a commenter or is a member or former member of our Armed Forces shed a little light on how this could have been missed or not actioned?

Re: When Voters Disrupt the Tea Party (Guest Voice)

Well I can tell you this much in red state Georgia, the dominant Republican state government is under serious fire for taking hundreds of fees and not knowing where the money is going thus strangling local city/county governments. Has many Republicans covering their own behinds here. So "government issues" is a bipartisan thing.

And regarding less government, red state Georgia wants more government concerning transportation since it's bad in Metro Atlanta and rural Georgia hasn't had any transportation "love" in years (unpaved roads, etc). So I think that more/less government is all about what a need is in a particular area.

Re: House Passes Health Care Bill But Future Unclear

Can't lie AR. Jerry Pournelle's piece gave my wife (who's a dedicated Obama supporter) and I serious pause. I see no letup in unemployment as well. Here in Georgia, 26 banks have failed since August 2008 and 50 more are in trouble. Georgia's heavy real estate angle and local bank protectionism has fostered this environment. But real estate is shot here and the financial system is just stagnant. All the while, work on health care has been the priority (which I feel it shouldn't have). I can't help thinking what $1.2 trillion "real" jobs bill introduced early this year would have accomplished (not a distributed stimulus bill like we had passed earlier).

Re: Details Emerging About Accused Fort Hood Massacre Shooter Maj. Ross Perot, like him or not, did present policy solutions as an Independent. And your right Elrod, there is a sizable amount of wide-eyed paranoia involved in the movement as well. The key to a strong and viable third party is concrete solutions, charismatic candidates (charisma matters whether you like it or not), the ability to include rather than exclude, and or course money (yuck but oh well). I know long time Democrats and Republicans across all colors who are completely turned off on the Big 2. And a strong third party needs to be able to bring all those folks together. And right now, the current Tea Party Movement hasn't done that much. BUT I like the energy. And I think the more energized voters get in terms of looking at a third party as not crazy, then we will be on the path. But it will be up to that third party to not look crazy.

Re: You Mean, There’s More Than One Bill Ayers? So will I admonish conservative media for trying? Nope. Because liberals will do and have done the same with political lightening rods as well. Why worry about facts when you can stir up your respective bases? It's a tried and true routine that is quite tired in many ways.

Re: Political Cannibalism

I have to agree with JSpencer and DaGoat. Comparing our political leaders even in indirect ways to evil wackaroons such as Stalin, Hitler, Guevara, and Chairman Mao just makes things too nasty (as well as not being true). 'Nuff said on that.

The GOP has a big problem. Some Republicans feel that by default, 2010 will be their year because of the Democratic controlled Congress health care fights and Obama's struggles in certain areas. I disagree. The GOP has a growing political and ideological "insurgency" in their ranks. This political insurgency wants purity of belief and ideas. And they don't tolerate any whiff of "leftism" or "Democratism". Many conservatives here in Georgia (who have voted Republican) would happily watch the GOP go down in flames for one of their "own" to get into a political office. And the GOP can't comfortably corral them at this time. Since I'm a "third partier", I absolutely love this political insurgency in the GOP. I wish one would happen in the Democratic party as well. But the Democrats seems to have more stable ship at the moment.

Re: Democrats Notice They’re Spending Us Into Oblivion

Neither party, as some have echoed here, have the guts and dare I say VISION, to reign in spending. The dueling finger pointing feels so childish. So now the Democrats are in charge and spending is surging. And if the Republicans take back control, I bet we see continued surging spending. The only solution in my book is a strong third party that's not beholden to any entity (or a small number of entities). The Democrat and Republican machines churn out cookie cutter political leaders.

Also, not all spending is bad. But we definitely need to reign it in. But hey, the Big 2 have it all figured out: back-forth and blame and do the same. Because if you are hurt in an accident and suffer financial and quality of life loss, they press all the right buttons to get you on-board with "getting all you can get" (no matter the circumstance). Whether conservative, liberal, moderate, slantways, or crookedways.

And one other thing, I kind of roll my eyes at times when we "regular folks" start with trial lawyer bashing. Simply because we encourage them. If you slip and break your foot at a business, do you need $100K? No! But if that lawyer throw it out there, many of us nod our heads happily. Maybe that's an exaggeration (maybe not) but WE THE PEOPLE have more power in this than we think.

Re: Obama “Thesis” Controversy a Hoax: Limbaugh Gets “Punked”

As to this thesis hoax, the "hoaxsters" are probably laughing at how easy this was. I read on a sizable amount of blogs/sites that this thesis should have disallowed President Obama from running for POTUS and worse. Gangs routinely made gang rape initiation for would be female members. And it wasn't just the "guys" going the raping. Other "gals" participated as well. Unlike the insane crowd that watched this gang rape, I made sure I disappeared when folks started gathering in that "certain way". And trying to tell folks was more fruitless than not. Frequently you heard, "That's what she gets" and "She wants to be down with them, then she gets down". Sick, sad, disgusting, brutal, etc... This incident doesn't look like a gang initiation but it sure seems so similar.

So this is nothing new. As to why this happens. Too many reasons. But the only way to really stop this type of crime is to be deadly serious about stopping this. I'm no Rambo. I'm no soldier. And I'm a "peacenik" many times. But if I had my gun and I came upon this scene..... Well... The whole successful/not successful angle is irrelevant in my opinion. There seems to be issues in the mass manufacturing of the vaccine that is slowing things down.

But government (both sides) have been slow on the uptake.
