This is a biproduct of great parenting.

Can't help but notice the irony however, that the teenage "I am so smart, I know what your lame-ass parent questions are before you ask them" list of answers is written on letterhead for a FERTILIZER company.

Don't tell me you and Sheryl missed that!

Re: I’m Going to Start Tying the Merovingian Knot on My Ties

I tried it. I guess what I'm saying is "Keep
what you love. Dump the rest." I've seen L&D done right...that is cool. And
I've seen it be a giant sinkhole of academic despair and soft hugs that have
little to do with business success. It's why I'm asking...I don't know
what's going on with me...usually I'm so opinionated and directive. It must
be my old age...I'm asking...and always reserve the right to be wrong.

Re: HR on a Shoestring

Trick question right? Right? Right?

Outsourcing doesn't make you more shoestringier. It only trades real love and devotion to doing the work for a mercantile relationship to someone you hope has love and devotion.

Re: How to Create Communication Strategy For Underwater Stock Options

Really great point about hygiene factors...some things only make us satisfied, but their removal makes us actively aggravated. Right now, not acknowledging underwater options is a mistake IMHO. Employees need to hear about how the company's doing and what the prospects are for pulling out of the doldrums. Deeply underwater options are just an aggravation otherwise.

Re: How to Create Communication Strategy For Underwater Stock Options

Topical

Another point; at what point is the existence of the underwater option no longer, not a positive incentive, but is an active negative?

Underwater stock options kill.

Re: Top 10 Events of 2008 That Will Shape HR in 2009

Sarah did a knockout job on this one. Those who ignore history --even recent history -- are bound to repeat it. Good context for the HR world. It's making us think. This is a really important post. I think that this is a bit of best.

Good - HR people really good at HR stuff (execellent execution)
Better - HR people really good at business generally and HR specifically (business people who happen to be in HR)
Best - HR people who are mature, cleaver business people who put their business issues in the context of social, economic, cultural and historical trends around them (HR people who are worthy citizens)

You nailed this one. Thanks.

Re: Getting There Early

You are the master at squeezing the essence out of a thought. I'm not proud of that reaction I had...I wish I had the constitution to let things go. I'm working on it. Just ever once in a while I like the blood pressure rise, though.
