Final Cut Pro X I was disappointed because it was really an upgrade to iMovie and did away with features independent filmmakers like.

The point I'm making is that Apple has gone from great, "blow your competition out of the water with daring innovations" to ho hum upgrades and features. I don't really see anything compelling about the latest iPhone.

Also Apple's quality has plummeted over the years. At one time you could rely upon Apple to have top quality products, which you paid extra for. Now you pay more, but the quality is no longer what it used to be. I discovered that first hand when, a couple years ago my two (or so) year old iMac crashed and I took it in for repair. I ended up buying a new iMac computer with most of the upgrades... When I turned that brand new computer on, it didn't work. I took that back and exchanged it for another new one. I turned that on and it didn't work either. The third new one worked. But after all that time and trouble (and expense) Apple didn't even throw in some free software to make up for it. My experience is that they've reduced quality and customer service in an effort to make even more billions of dollars.

I still like Apple and will probably always use their computers, at least until a better, more innovative company comes along, but Apple has sorely disappointed me over the last couple of years and I'm no longer the big fan I used to be. I long for days when Apple offered amazing products that no one else could touch.

So I'll figure out which phone I like best (iPhone 5 or Galaxy III), take into consideration my quality experiences with Apple and take it from there.

BTW: I still think Apple makes good solid products that are better than most of their competitors. But some of their competitor's products are just as good and better in some areas.

Re: Furor Over RNC Funds Spent In Bondage Club

The GOP did make torture vogue, so perhaps this is what they think a normal relationship is like.

And they expect the American people to trust them with taxpayers' money? I know they request contributions from time to time and that the writers bit only donate their works, but also their time and money to keep it going.

I can certainly understand why someone who volunteers their talents and so much time, expecting constructive comments, would find it frustrating that they now need to spend more time being police.

Perhaps a more robust commenter registration system, not to ban anyone, just to ensure new commenters are serious about posting constructive comments, is something to think about.

At any rate, the trolls only win if we let them and we turn away from this site. If we don't want to let them win then we should continue to support TMV and hopefully we, as a community, can make suggestions to Joe G and others at TMV and solve this problem. It will take a few months and committment but if all of us truly feel that readers' comments ARE that important then we'll stick around and find a solution. If the site is good then it's worth fighting for. The trolls may have won this round, but let's not give up in the first round. We already know that the folks at TMV ate committed to making this the best site, so hopefully the ideas already generated in this thread will be helpful, and let's offer more ideas. But we also need to stand by them and not leave the site during the next few stages. We can do this.

Re: Discontinuing Self-Published Reader Comments

I will miss the comments and I think AR has a good point about giving a "one-time reprieve" to those who, for whatever reason, can not follow TMV's guidelines (which are fully reasonable). There are times in the heat of a discussion people say things that they otherwise would not. Personally I've found it to be a great exercise for myself personally, not that I've succeeded all the time.

At any rate, as much as I will miss the comments, I understand that you need to make this change. Since more and more people are coming to the site I can only imagine how burdensome it is to monitor comments. The price of success!

Anyway, I'll continue to visit and read; there are great contributors on here and I need my daily TMV fix (even if I don't post comments).

By the way, I enjoy the community the comments encourage. It's neat to see all the different personalities on here. I think having that community where everyone knows everyone else and newcomers are welcomed is special.

Re: With Jim Bunning Gone, Tom Coburn Steps Up to the Plate

amb2745, thanks for your comment. I hope you (and all unemployed people) find work soon. You must be going through a terrible time. All the support I can offer is to say, "Hang in there". It's not much, but there are many people in this country who DO care about your (and others like you) problems and who ARE pressing our elected leaders to do something to alleviate your situation. You and millions of other Americans were not laid off through any fault of your own. It's a horrible situation you're in. Take care and God bless.

Re: Rush Limbaugh Moving to Cost Rica?

"Limbaugh is speaking of American doctors laying groundwork to set up up private, fee-for-service healthcare inside Costa Rica. The healthcare would be run by Americans. Most clients would be Americans - and also some Canadians, Brits, and other refugees from government run healthcare."

So CR has universal healthcare and there are some private facilities. That's what I've always thought the Dems wanted... except people like Limbaugh made it impossible. So now he's supporting this idea in another country, Costa Rica, no less.... We could have had it here if he and his ilk were truly concerned about the welfare of Americans. So why is he supporting it in CR? :)

Re: Obama Plans to Use Momentum From Health Care Reform Victory to Press On

"Obama now will push Congress to close campaign-finance loopholes opened by the Citizens United case, adopt his overhaul of the No Child Left Behind education bill and perhaps even tackle a clean-energy bill."

All very good issues to tackle, which of course the Republicans will obstruct as much as possible. I think they're responding to their own anxiety and fear rather than the person who posted the comment. It's horrible that so many people in this country are in such pain. We as a country (and individually when we can) should do what we can to lessen that pain and we should each individually understand what is going on with them when they make such comments.

Re: With Jim Bunning Gone, Tom Coburn Steps Up to the Plate

chedar, "I am one who will vote no to any Republican candidate here in California. It's one thing to hear elected officials speak on national stage and present their views as representative of their constituents. It's another thing to actually hear their constituents speak out and give their own views of how well their elected officials are doing. I wish there was a forum where people could offer personal observations on their own elected officials (such as your comment). Your comment is very interesting. Thanks again.

Re: Marijuana Legalization in California: Doobie or Not Doobie?

"Actually, the smarter activists ought to be pushing already for a "hemp for fabric and for biofuels, too" campaign..."

DLS, I can't tell you how much I love that comment! If you want a more comprehensive policy, then go elsewhere (and/or pay more). If your policy doesn't cover something then insurers have the right to deny it.

As far as I'm concerned there should be universal healthcare so that everyone's health needs are met.

Re: We’ve Seen These Faces Before

"The coffin was from a prayer vigil, and protesters say that the coffin symbolized babies who would be aborted due to the health care law and was not a threat to Carnahan. . .
Using a coffin to symbolize abortion victims is not a death threat."

So the protesters knocked on the door and told the dem that the coffin was from a prayer vigil and should not be seen as a death threat? I don't know about anyone else but I've never heard of a coffin being at a prayer vigil (other than for someone's soul) and that is certainly not the first thing that would come to my mind if a coffin showed up at my doorstep.

Re: Driving with an Obama/Biden Bumper Sticker Can Be Dangerous

George, thanks.

Re: Driving with an Obama/Biden Bumper Sticker Can Be Dangerous

Dr. J. Yes, the "death panels" specifically. Palin and all the other Republican leaders (elected or not) want people to believe that Obama's (and Pelosi's) policies will kill someone in their family.

Why else would the Republicans use the term "death panels"? What is a "death panel" if not a government (in this case) group of people set out to determine whether one should live or die? It is NOT a "death squad" which conjures up images of roving machine-gunned armed Nazis (which, by the way is another Republican favored word in describing the Dems) going from one house to the other to shoot people. The term "death panels" as used by Palin are government panels used to decide people's fates.

As absolutely vile and horrible enough that Palin's statement was, it would be easy to dismiss if it was seen as a loony comment. But it caught on with the Republicans' propagating the belief that Obama and Pelosi's (both out to destroy the country) healthcare reform would kill members of one's family. I know Republicans (and tea partiers) who believe Obama's and Pelosi's HCR will lead to government death panels deciding peoples' fates when it comes to insurance coverage.

The Republicans have used fear and the most extreme lies to try to thwart HCR. The battle against HCR from the GOP is not based on facts. So it's not just the "death panels" but virtually the entire way the GOP has waged the battle against HCR.

DIdn't Obama caution in his meeting with Republicans a few days after his State of the Union speech that using such divisive and attacking language would give Americans the wrong impression, even though the Republicans fomenting such ideas thought it was just politics?

Re: Marijuana Legalization in California: Doobie or Not Doobie?

Yes, marijuana should be legal- there are clear medical benefits. No need to spend much time comparing it to other drugs i.e. alcohol, tobacco, meth, heroin, etc. The decision to legal marijuana use should consider marijuana's own merits and its (few) demerits.

Re: Driving with an Obama/Biden Bumper Sticker Can Be Dangerous

"Uh huh. The bank bailouts were done by the Bush administration and need I remind everyone that he wanted hundreds of billions of dollars from Congress with no strings attached. Thankfully Congress made the Bush administration change the terms to lessen the impact to the taxpayer. And the big bailed out banks did pay back the money, with interest. So let's not blame "liberals" for transferring wealth and bailing out banks. We're all in this together and that's what we as a country did.... Both Dems and Republicans because it was necessary to stabilize the economy.

Re: Stand Up For Your Confederate Southern Heritage

So what about "Northerners" who sided with the thoughts of the Southern Confederate people? Take what belongs to you and go.'

I don't think there is anything murky about the theological perspective. For me the theological point is that we each must live our lives according to what is right. We should not try to lead others' lives for them, nor should we be envious of what they have. We must first and foremost live our lives ourselves, tend to our own spiritual garden and let others follow their own spiritual paths and learn from life's lessons. No one else can live my life for me.
