Thank you for the kind words. In many ways for me these words of
encouragement mean more than any advertising dollars I might earn. I'll do
my very best to try and keep writing stuff that keeps you wanting to come

Definitely Daniel I think that blogging is an excellent way for academia to
both bypass and add to the whole peer review process. For too long the peer
review system has been a closed system but with the availability of blogs
professors and teachers alike now have a way to get their idea out there in
the general flow of information.

Brett,
Your's is what I would call a premier blog on my first level of bloggers as
outlined in my post. I would never want to load up a feed reader without
your blog being one of those in my OPML. There is an honesty and freshness
that helps in a way to keep me grounded as well so if you never changed your
style I would be a happy camper.

But knowing the profession you are in and who you work for I would also find
the same value if you wrote about those things as well.

Either way I come out the winner and it wouldn't bother me in the least if
you ever decided to but ads back on the blog.

If you are referring to the Related Posts then that is something that just
about all blogs do and is handled by a plugin for Wordpress. It is
considered to be something additional to the post itself.
I very rarely link internally unless it is a previous post that I am
specifically referring to as a reference. Typically if I am linking in a
post it is to any external reference.

That said I know there is a new service out there that can be used to
replace the Related Posts plugin but instead allows a blogger to select
external links - I am still debating using it

I don't deny any of your points but that was not what Robert was talking
about nor what I was replying to in my post.
I remember working on a dairy farm as a kid and part of my time was spent
working with the farmer's mother who at that time was in her 70's or 80's
and I learned more about human nature and life than I could have in any
other way.

So I understand very well how knowledge can come from all areas and all
different kinds of people but again that was not the point that Robert was
raising in his post.

well I would be surprised Robert but then that is one of the fun things life
- being surprised. but I think that if indeed the really brilliant people
who are the real experts of their field were on FriendFeed I agree with you
I doubt they would be showing their face too often - they are probably to
busy laughing their asses off :)

As right as you might be about that Kevin I think it then behoofs those of
us that do believe in these types of standards to do our best to stick to
them and be examples to new bloggers wanting to make this a career or a
professional hobby.

while you might think of me as being pessimistic I prefer to look at as
being realistic. Even if this bill does go all the way through the US
webcasters are still going to be bearing the brunt of royalty fees. Not to
mention the fact that things like this make a joke of the global ideals of
the "world wide web" or turn us into criminals as we find other ways to
enjoy these services that are illegal.
