As we all know, it wasn't. The 2005 title that was won by the White Sox was a very bitter pill to swallow. For me, it was a nightmare."

At approximately 9pm Sunday (you know.. after the pathetic performance by the Bears in the Super Bowl, my thoughts turned to.. "Well.. Maybe the Cubs can win the World Series this year". Heck, we've got the team and the manager to do it!

"Despite what you hear, the South Side is not 100% Sox fans;"

A good friend of mine, and fellow Cubs fan, is from Dolton, so this is true.

"As for my nightmare? Monday thru Friday, I take the Rock Island Metra train downtown to work. Unfortunately, the train travels past Jail Cell (U.S. Cellular) field where I have the displeasure of seeing the 2005 World Series Champion sign."

Crappy... When I worked in Rockford TV, one of anchors had that on the back of his car.

I have a small AdSense bar on the "single" page template of my blog. It's between the "metadata" and the comment fields.

As to my regular readers... I disclaim in my "Etc..." section that I have ads on some of my pages (got that idea from a friend).

Pownce is a much better system in my opinion.. Not only am I able to select which kind of message I want to post, it seems to be a bit more polished of an interface than Twitter.

Part of Pownce's appeal, at least right now, is the fact that it is a closed beta. It's much like Gmail was back in the day. There is a certain coolness if you can say "I have a Pownce account." Of course, Kevin Rose helps, too.

@Sean: Not having SMS support is a pain, however, I don't use the SMS support of Twitter that often. In fact, make that not at all. When I do a status update, it's from the computer. Sure, though, I'm probably in the minority. I do hope that they do implement one, though. I know that Jaiku has one, but they don't have a US shortcode yet and I don't even want to see what Verizon would charge me to text overseas.

@Deerpak: The friends feature is another plus of Pownce. I can choose whether a message goes just to them or to the world.

Oh boy.. I've seen this way too much this year. I remember when I was in school (2000-2004), no one cared. I could walk around Milwaukee in a Cubs shirt and no one cared. Heck, I interned with the Brewers (yes, I know.. but it did get me into the all-star game... and really they were no threat to the Cubs at that point) and the only time that place was full was when the Cubs were in town.

Fast forward to now, I'm back in Cheeseland, this time in Madison, directing the news at "Madison's Official Packers Station". Yeah.. Now I'm getting it on both ends. Now not only do I hear it from the Packers fans, I'm getting it from the Brewers fans. (Side note: I marked the fact we were airing the Packer's first pre-season game this weekend by wearing my Bears NFC Championship shirt)

Oh well.. It's late and this probably is one big "word salad" as I'm tired and really want to head to bed but am being kept up by severe storms.

Google Apps are good, but, not for anything serious. I still prefer to use OOo or Excel when I am doing, for example, my budget. I know Google "does no evil", but I still don't trust them.

Now, Google's spreadsheet app was handy yesterday when I was doing some online research. I had the lappy open with Google up and then did the research on the desktop. Had the GF not come over to the computer, I could have just shared the Google Doc with her.

Linux is a great OS.. I've used it on an off for some time now. Every time I decide I'm going to go to Linux full time I find, though, something that gets in my way. Currently, my 2 problems are...

1. No real alternative to Quicken. Stop.. Don't even recommend GNUCash. It's nowhere near as, user friendly, nice looking and it cannot automatically download my bank statements.

2. No alternative exists for GRLevel3. Of course, you've probably never heard of that. It's a piece of software for downloading NWS radar in basically real-time. (I'm a storm spotter.. It's an essential piece of software).

So basically... Until that gets fixed, I'm stuck on XP. Oh and I tried running XP with virtualization, but it seems none of the virtualization apps for Linux support Direct X which kills the chance of running #2.

Man.. I haven't actually used my Jaiku in months... It was just getting too much to update everything and they still don't have a US shortcode like Twitter does.

Plus, it doesn't have the cool API apps like Twitter does.

Why stop there? Why not force YouTube and all videos on the net to comply with the total captioning requirement? Since 1/1/06 everything on broadcast television has been required to be 100% close captioned.

Yikes.. It was only 25 hours in IL when I got my license.

Btw.. Leo.. I know a couple of people have mentioned it in passing, but make sure Abby learns how to drive a manual transmission. She may never own one, but it's a good skill to have. Heck, if my girlfriend would have learned, she wouldn't have had to prey that her car would get her to IL and back when her mom was in the hospital, she could have taken mine as I only drive like 2 miles to work.

So is that a van you have that she's driving?

How about they cancel my Samsung with no early termination fee so I can get an iPhone.

My VZW phone sucks and unfortunately, I'm only 6 months into a 2-year contract with them. In that 6 months, I'm on my 2nd phone, btw. First one's outer screen cracked and now this one is having hinge problems.

(Actually, I'd love to get a T-Mobile phone, but they don't have service where I'm at)
