Well, we don't know that there isn't a tape.

We know that Larry Johnson is an unreliable hack, based on past experience. But it would be strange if Johnson were generating this rumor out of nothing.

My guess is that this rumor has indeed been percolating for a while in political circles, broadly enough that Marsh and Stone have heard of it, too.

What makes it unlikely the 'the tape' exists isn't that Johnson is a ridiculous messenger, but rather than such a tape could have remained hidden for so long. Besides, what on Earth would Michelle Obama be doing in a panel discussion including Farrakhan, in *2007*? (Remember, the Jena business noted in Johnson's quote featured in '07.)

That said, I still give it a 1% to 5% chance that there is something to the rumor. I can imagine Michelle Obama going on an occasional anti-whitey rant---she's been sitting through those every Sunday for 20 years, and she broadly shares Rev. Wright's anti-America and anti-capitalist tendencies.
