I'm impressed with Google Voice (obviously) because of the simple yet useful features it offers that somehow the phone companies don't. This is proof that sometimes the best ideas for how to improve something come out of leftfield. I think everybody will like it. If they let current users invite more people, I'll be sure to post some invites here. :)

Re: http://www.blackweb20.com/2009/03/23/google-gives-voice-to-the-masses-with-google-voice/

You can get a number specific to your location or a number that's available anywhere basically except the 212 area code (I tried for one of those). I've got a 404 number through Google Voice, but my original numbers are 910 and 202 numbers.

Re: Conferences and Events I Want to Hit Up for 2010.

Yeahh, I just definitely need to get out more. The author talks about doing what you've said, i.e., "...looking for a customer market, finding what their problem is, and only then making a solution to that problem..." It's a great book and I think it'd keep a lot of people from starting startups based on "white hot" ideas instead of things that people would actually get some real use from.

Re: All the Pretty Faces…

Oh wow! I think more companies would experience what yours is if they dipped their toe in the water and tried out some of these tools. They're easy to use and inexpensive - and in some cases free. It's been interesting looking at that aspect, too, because you'll find that some of your potential customers DO want to move beyond what they've always done because they know it's not particularly efficient, but they don't know of alternatives. I always keep that one in mind now and make it one of the first things I identify. And I'm hoping this is all due to a lack of experience on the part of the person sending the email out, which is the reason I did not include a name in my post. And the lack of a coherent pitch and call to action would seem to agree with our hope this is the case.

Let's hope their managment straightens this out.
