great stuff, Vidar. i think what you said epitomizes what 25yo Daniel Ek is doing with Spotify. he's big & brash with all of his statements (even going as far as claiming merch sales will be one of their revenue streams!)....and he's got plenty of doubters, but i LOVE his tenacity!

how do you think overpromise/overdeliver works with investors?

i completely agree, and i'd love to hear some ideas. to your point though, the ones that take off usually weren't passionate enough or big enough believers in the first place (i'm talking college-kids or recent graduates = very few bills to pay).

in my opinion, the best way to keep them on board & focused is to create a collaborative atmosphere that is lax (to a degree) but exciting. always keep the big picture in mind, but stay focused on one step at a time

Max: Matt and Toni have built a company in Automattic that is pretty remarkable that it builds such great stuff and is basically completely virtual. The have engineers all around the world. They have an office in SF which is normally empty except for socials and I think the last I heard their highest employee count in any one city was four.

Hans, actually just EMI Records has sued Grooveshark. That being said,

Zack, The Wire is great, but I was trying to point readers to
currently running shows, because nothing's more disappointing than
getting to the end of The Wire and to have nothing to look forward to

"painfully awesome" is a good way to put it. still, i imagine there's plenty of songs that have ~25 sec verses that could be layered on top on each other. either way, rickrolling a track always has it's perks

The first 5 or so sites are from 2009, the others date back to 2006 --
but often times Quantcast isn't as accurate as it could be, the same
goes for Compete and Alexa. For anyone looking to buy/sell these, you
will want access to Google Analytics to verify all true traffic data.

I've seen sites that have 1,000,000 uniques that only show 300,000 in
Compete.

I wish I had a good book to recommend on raising Venture Capital AND
one for stock options. As far as stock options goes, the reason it can
be so expensive is based on what lawyer/firm puts the paperwork
together for you. So if you're at that point, you should try to find a
lawyer who handles this sort of stuff and get them to give you a
quote, and in the process you'll learn a lot about what's entailed in
the process (and how much you can expect to pay in your local market).

Jason, those changes would be via HTML, but I can easily add those
changes very quickly for you assuming it's just the words "video"
"picture" "etc"

Jason,

Adding the social bookmarking and such should work fine with the
plugins, and adding additional header may require a little more work,
as the only area to add that is where my site says "startup" and
"finance". It is very easy to do with a little HTML knowledge, and I
can even lend a little help, but it's not an out of the box item.

The theme hasn't been updated to go along with the latest Wordpress
but will be fully functional with all of 2.7+ Adsense is actually
already customized, if you come in from Google you will see Adsense
ads on the site, while if you come to the site directly you won't --
try it out for yourself.

It really depends on the plugin and what you're trying to do, but I am
running a lot of plugins under the hood on this particular theme as we
speak.
