Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman

I have conflicting feelings about this podcast (Reid Hoffman can come off as a self-promoter). Ultimately, this series is inspirational in the same way "How I Built This" is inspirational. As the title suggests, it focuses on companies that have either scaled or failed to scale, and the lessons they've learned along the way, along with more general theories about how to achieve scale.

I especially enjoy the raw interviews with founders -- Airbnb's Brian Chesky gives great thoughts on how you can take your product to a new level with some novel thought processes.

I can confirm this. I just bought a Sling 5L and got it in two days ago. With a Fuji X-Pro2 and a single prime lens attached, it's immediately uncomfortable on my shoulder; it focuses all the weight on a small area and is not what I would want to wear while walking downtown for hours. In comparison, my 10 year old Lowepro bag feels like wearing a cloud vs. the Peak Design.

Lowepro = bad style
Peak Design = bad comfort

If you want history preserved, put white surrender flags on every one of the monuments. Or, simply put them in museums and keep them in history books, where they belong.

Don't glorify the Confederate Army's beliefs or actions. They fought for inhumanity and should be remembered that way.

Plenty of people have thought about whether Confederate memorials deserve a spot on government property in 2017 and have decided no.

I find that idea to be nonsensical; that putting up monuments to an opposing army is a sign of reconciliation between two factions. As has been well covered, Robert E. Lee himself was against the erection of Confederate statues for similar reasons.

Because a citizen is conscripted into the wrong side of a war, they deserve a monument on courthouse property a century+ later? Would you make this same argument about other forces on the wrong sides of wars around the world? (Obviously, the Axis in WW2 come to mind.)

History is history. This monument put up during the Jim Crow era – again, at a courthouse – wasn't about history. It was about positively remembering those who fought for something tremendously negative. Negative for both our country and for those whose freedom they were trying to suppress.

I'd prefer it not be taken down via vandalism, but to argue that it deserves on courthouse property is backwards. It deserves to be in the history books or a museum.
