I'm pleased that it will raise awareness for something to be done. It's time that new technologies replace old/out-dated existing systems. But I'm not entirely happy because I don't believe in default blocking.

While I believe in mandating ISPs and other companies that provide Internet access, to implement new and improved family safety controls, I do not believe in default blocking. I consulted the British Government on the Parliamentary Inquiry to which Simon Grehan refers and my advice then, would be the same for the Irish Government: make it easy for parents to block content they deem unsuitable/harmful for their children. But do not block by default as that is nothing short of censorship. The only time default blocking should be considered is when you are talking about publish wifi hotspots, companies etc.

Re: First cmypitch event a great success

Great stuff! I met with my early-stage investor, Paul Birch yesterday to walk him through our latest designs for Wubud. It's important that investors take a proactive approach to staying on top of things, as it's easy for entrepreneurs to forget to provide regular updates - which provide confidence in your ability to deliver - especially when things slide.

Re: Guardian launches Open Platform tool to make online content available free

Hi Paul, thanks for asking. All of the technical points mentioned already, are well documented and understood by half-brained designers. Who designed it?

Re: How to delete your Ecademy account

You can find out by clicking on the link in the post - try to login. I'm sure others have benefited from it too. In the long run however, when it comes to any of the people I know (journalists, correspondents, entrepreneurs, PR people, marketers etc.) not one of them has anything positive to say about Ecademy. The Blackstar stuff is very close to pyramid marketing according to some. Also, there are lots of other negative threads going around. If you're plugged into the tech industry you'd know all of this.

Re: How to delete your Ecademy account

@ANGELSDEN with the exception of the odd comment on here, I have yet to hear positive things about Ecademy - not one single person I know has a good word to say - and that's *a lot* of people. OK, so perhaps you're an exception to the rule ;)

I must declare that I don't know Thomas or Penny. I can say however, that I kinda know (of) Julian - CTO. Here's the last (Twitter) conversation I had with him a while back:

Me: "I think Twitter is turning into a conversational tool" (we're going back a while!)
Julian in response to my comment: "I think Twitter turning into a conversational tool is stupid"
Me: "Julian, you're now conversing with me"
Julian: :::Radio silence:::

Dear 'bad things', bring it on baby.

Re: How to delete your Ecademy account

@laurence 1) having that feature is SPAM if it means that your contacts continue to receive invites **years** after they were sent! 2) it was switched off.

Re: How to delete your Ecademy account

@haikuriousgeorg it is good for some - just like self-harm is good for some. Here's a message I got from a FB friend request on FB - very funny:

Well done on the "Get Rid of the Scourge that is Ecademy" post. Getting rid of one's Ecademy account is like washing the filth off after visiting a rendering plant which only slaughters slow, dim-witted animals.

Re: How to delete your Ecademy account

@haikuriousgeorg - I realised a long time ago but didn't feel it was appropriate for me to publish the management email thread that you sent me - it would have made me look like an even bigger dick :-) BTW I had it out with the CEO in Adam Street when he introduced himself to me in the gents toilets at Adam Street - how fitting huh!

@Webby Boy - glad to be of assistance lol

Re: Latitude: The Trojan Horse — Why “Who’s Nearby?” Is Not A Business

@tomsoft There is no agreement with Operators - Google gathered the information itself. I'm afraid to say however, that I was unable to pick a winner. Some of you will think I should give away the prize to the best of the bunch - and I've done that before - however, I don't want these little competitions to turn into lotteries or people will start to leave random answers to get their name put into the hat.

I'm very sorry! I'll tell you the name we came up with after the domain has been bought ;-)

Again, thank you so much for helping. BTW, if you fancy being the first to hear about my events, then why not sign up to my mailing list - I'm going to inform people via email first, followed by this blog, twitter and facebook.

http://paulfwalsh.com/events/
