He's humanised the company while working within the constraints of what he was given. It's not his fault he can't answer question 4 - to be fair he probably doesn't know the answer - no doubt company policy is not to say and James has to stick to that.

I still think that after the comments from SpinVox last week that attempted to either blame ex-employees or confuse with statistics, James has his work cut out.

I'm not sure it's down to social media per se as Andrew suggests in his comment, but I do agree that much more of a social media attitude is needed within the company - ie understand how to be human and engaging in your communications. It shouldn't be that James is the only person that can do it (but thanks God for them he can).

Re: SpinVox claims only 2% of messages are referred to humans

Just to make it clear, I'm not blaming Porter Novelli the agency. I can't imagine that any agency would suggest this kind of strategy. It seems to me to be a cultural fear or misunderstanding of PR at SpinVox.

Re: SpinVox claims only 2% of messages are referred to humans

Actually, after reading the release again, they still don’t actually state how many messages are done by computers or humans, or a bit of both. What they state is they need 98% less human interaction – which isn’t quite the same as 2% of messages done by humans.

So, even after all this, they’re trying to hide behind ‘clever’ PR.

Why can’t they just be up front and honest?

Re: SpinVox claims only 2% of messages are referred to humans

The problem with this Ewan, as you rightly allude to, is that it is hard to believe after such a long silence (and in the social media world – one which SpinVox claimed to be playing in – this has been a veeerrrrry long silence).

If this was the case, why not just say it earlier and get on with it. In fact if this stat is true, why not have said it a long time ago and prevent the BBC story from ever being a story. To my mind, 98% is a pretty powerful stat and part of the reason why I just accepted that humans did a lot of it was because I can only imagine how hard it is to decipher a strange accent talking in a noisy atmosphere, saying ‘in-jokes’ that only the recipient understands. So why the such a long silence?

It seems that a very poor [almost non-existent] understanding of PR has created this problem for SpinVox and then watched it grow to the extent that it is likely to bring the company down.

Re: Is this every device in the 2009 Android pipeline?

Not every one, but I can't say more just yet.

Re: Welcome back to Shitty Service UK

Love the fact that the taxi driver is asking you where it is. What normally happens is I leave too late (just one more email ...), then as I change tube I have to walk the entire length of the platform to exit, arriving at the next platform just as a train leaves ...

Saving me a couple of minutes on that journey would be worthwhile.

Re: Use TubeExits to beat the London Underground crowds

That's a great idea and a really useful app. Can he do an Android version please?

Re: TwitPub, the premium twitter publishing service, hits version 2.0

This sounds interesting, a bit like AQA's platform to do the same with text messages - http://www.aqa.63336.com/news/pr_090420_aqa2u.htm

As with all of these things it's worth the money if it's exactly what I'm looking for, so a great model to target the long tail.

Re: Mobile Industry Review 3.0 is here

Wow!!
