Speaking of Hulk vs Wolverine, did Lindelof (of Lost fame) ever finish that story arc in the Ultimate Universe? That pissed me off that there was soooooo long in between issues, and I really don't think it was ever wrapped up. You'd think he might have had some time to work on it during the writer's strike.

Stone has ALWAYS had an agenda. You don't think those movies you cited were meant to point fingers at the government or portions of society's citizenry? Hell, he thought so much of his film JFK that he wanted it shown in high school history classes.

I don't think it's any surprise or change of direction for Stone to do a movie about Bush.

Also, I don't think Stone is as good as most people do, and he certainly isn't as good as he thinks he is.

You don't think that an actor who loves the comic books (Jane has created and written some) might see where this movie might be going and say, "you know what, I draw the line at having the Punisher based in Tampa...I can go no further into the abyss"?

Also, why would the studio force him out? He was the only good thing about the last one.

I DO want to see more Punisher, but I want to see him done well.

I think he could be a great character on the screen, but it can't be cartoony or over the top violence. As in the comic books (when done well), the violence is more matter-of-fact and expedient. He's not trying to do any fancy moves or impress, he's trying to avenge his family's murders and he's damn good at it. He needs to be more military, less super-heroy/villainy).

Thomas Jane (bad punisher-voice aside) was really good as Frank Castle, I thought. I also thought I read somewhere that he wanted to do the second one...so I don't know what happened.

As for "War Zone," eh. The over-the-top violence and poor effects don't make it seem very appealing, but I'll probably see it in the theater anyway. I wish they'd look at what makes the Punisher a success in the comics (which, BTW, is simple: it's Garth Ennis) and take one of those stories and faithfully adapt it.

They got a lot of stuff right in the first one despite having a lot of stuff wrong (and, sadly, I think Thomas Jane was one of those that knew it and knew the potential of the character). I was hoping they'd build on those things. Seems they haven't.

I started watching season 1 on DVD a couple of days ago, and will start in on S2 by the middle of this week. It's different that what I expected, but it's fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously.

That was blatant anti-hobitism on the part of the LOTR producers, BTW. It got a lot of coverage in some of the "smaller" media outlets.

I like Rodrigez (that grind house crap aside), which is why I'm disappointed he's doing it. I think the reason no one cared about the first RS movie is the same reason no one will care about this RS movie: the source material sucks, RS doesn't have much appeal on an archetypal level, and no one really want to see a hyper-violent chick with a giant phallic sword (if if she's a scantily clad redhead).

I just checked, and...yup, I'm totally over Tim Burton.

I think he has an interesting slant on things, but he's gotten too big for his britches and doesn't have anyone reigning him in. When his films are 100% Tim Burton visions, they kind of gross me out a little. Even re-watching the Batman films gives me that feeling.

The only Burton work I can think of that doesn't do that to me is Big Fish. I don't know what got into him with that one, but that was one beautiful movie, IMO. If he can do Wonderland like that, then I'm in. But if it's at all dark, I'm out.
