The idiots who are starring in this show are guilty of the same thing that the actors who portray offensive scripted parts are: selling out for fame and a quick buck. Your distinction as to what Italian-Americans are, or should be, offended by is a false one.

Re: Sarah’s A Runner

Of course it would. And no doubt his supporters would say how petty this is to even be discussing. We would have the exact same discussion; its just that the parties would switch sides.

jchem, it wouldn't be the exact same discussion, because nobody on the Left *really* thinks that Palin's disrespect of the flag means that she's anti-American, communist, terrorist, or any of the other epithets thrown at Obama. A picture such as this with Obama would serve as "proof" of every right-wing conspiracy theory out there. The only "proof" that the left draws from this picture is that she's careless.

Re: Byron York: Blacks Are Skewing Obama’s Poll Numbers

CStanley, I understand your attempt at finding nuance in York's argument, and I don't think in the least that you make your point out of racist sentiment. But the problem is that you're claiming the poll measures something it doesn't. We don't measure the president against some hypothetical non-human, non-baggage-carrying pure policy entity. We elect a *person* to be president, and we decide whether the person is doing a good job or not. The reasons why we do so do not diminish the reality of his popularity.

Compare it to the "What's the Matter with Kansas?" mentality that many Democrats had through the Republican era. They were consistently baffled that people in the heartland voted for Republicans even when it would be in their obvious (they say) interest to support Democratic policies and positions. Yelling "Why won't they come to their senses?!" didn't make those people vote for Obama and a Democratic Congress. And ignoring their presence most certainly did not make them vote for Obama and a Democractic Congress. York clearly wants Republicans to ignore the sentiments of a certain bloc of voters. Whether racist or not, it's still an incredibly wrong-headed way to solve the problem of bringing back the Republican message.

Re: Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse

No apologies necessary... you can't get more politically oriented than Mickey Mouse. McCain's "that one" is as far from racist as Obama's "lipstick on a pig" was sexist. But sensationalizing both lines and paying heed to the noise machines on both sides is probably the media's idea of balanced coverage.

Re: Will This Comment Cost Barack Obama The Presidency?

He's obviously counting the five states that Texas has the right to divide itself into...
http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

Plus North and South Florida...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...

Plus the State of Franklin...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_franklin

Plus the State of Jefferson...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Jefferson

...which makes 57. But I just thought I'd suggest the possibility that there isn't some underlying nefarious purpose here.
