Rabid, foaming at the mouth Olbermann?! Maddow and Olbermann are commentators whose arrogant and narrow-minded opinions are a scourge in MSM. They are the very components in society that drive the right even further right - which is NOT a good thing. So why waste time listening to them?! They don't have anything worthwhile to contribute until they can control their sneering, snarky, disrespectful attitudes. They bring the UGLY out. One of the worst moments Olbermann had really opened my eyes to the hate behind his views. His post VP debate commentary was nothing short of lewd barfing on the interested viewers! It sickened me to watch him and I will never again spend more than one second looking at or listening to him again.

The antithesis of Obama's educational justice for our black citizenry is this:

We can only hope this man, Barack Obama, whom we really don't know very well, is what he is CURRENTLY claiming to be. My gut tells me not to trust Obama's leadership. My head tells me, we'd have the right checks and balances in place to head the 'totalitarian extreme' off at the pass. I would find much more comfort in Barack's leadership if we didn't have Pelosi, Franks, and other misguided Dems filling the Congress with their form of extremism and contribution to our economic vulnerabilities. We need CHECKS AND BALANCES. It really bothers me that our FBI would not give clearance for an agent with Obama's past. Yet we will adopt him into our American republic to govern as President - he has so little invested in American heritage compared to McCain. Dear Citizens, vote with your heart AND mind. Keep your emotions in check! Let's come back to Obama when the time is right?!

McCain believes the corn-ethanol subsidies woud destroy the market and contribute to inflation. He says we have not got a SUSTAINABLE energy policy. He indicates there are more efficient biofeeds available like sugar cane.

Obama supports a tariff (on Brazilian sugar cane?) that may well be illegal under the World Trade Organization’s rules; and, just an aside, a big corn-ethanol investor Tom Daschle is a key adviser of his.

Why federal subsidies? I would think states with corn economies should do the subsidizing. But Obama links the subsidies to national security - independence from oil countries. Wouldn't a comprehensive, sustainable energy plan be more intelligent?

This is not "pork" spending that Palin legislated. The Gravina Access Project was one of 17 high priority projects in the state of Alaska funded by the “Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century." All states have access to the federal infrastructure funds for improving their tourism, their surface transportation, their business and land development. (For each State, the Act specifies a certain share of the aggregate funding for the following programs: Interstate Maintenance (IM), National Highway System (NHS), Bridge, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement, Surface Transportation Program (STP), Metropolitan Planning, High Priority Projects, Appalachian Development Highway System, Recreational Trails...)

Alaska's previous governor, Murkowski, was involved in early evaluations of the state's infrastructure needs. No real progress was made until Sarah Palin's Secretary of Transportation studied appropriate ways to utilize the available funding resources. The Gravina Access project was controversial and difficult to implement for many reasons. If GOP prejudice flows out of ignorance, mis-information and dogma, then please extol the virtues of being an Obama worshipper so GOPs everywhere can become enlightened. I wish we could stop the ridicule factor in political discussions. I find liberals/democrats to be extremely mocking, antagonistic people who care little about respecting others and preserving dignity. Also, if you think that religion- or lack of- isn't a huge player in what motivates or guides a person, you are limited in your power of reason. Theocracies are usually oppressive and repressive forces in a culture. Ideologies are important too - research 'Afrocentrist separatist' and see if you like that model for America.

Deeth is an abysmal journalist...can't the Independent Iowan find better than this? These candidates are deserving of so much more respect and dignity. Even if you don't agree with their political views, there's certainly a more intelligent way to write about them than was displayed in this article.

And shame on that so-called 'man of God' who uttered blaspemous prayer over the McCain-Palin gathering. God loves all his children. God doesn't choose sides with his children. He hears only the RIGHTEOUS petitions of his beloved on BOTH sides. That preacher is still lost to God.

I pray that God will reveal, to all believers who vote, which candidate can help us through our difficult times the best. But understanding they are fallible human beings, I know there will be some disappointment ahead as well. Begin praying today that your heart, mind and soul are on the things of God and not on your pocketbook. Anything less will bring about change we probably deserve but would not want!

Never said I did believe Obama is better on foreign policy (I do, but it's irrelevant to the issue at hand). I'm not really interested in herrings, red or otherwise, so let's get back on topic.
The point of the article, and my postings, is that a large percentage of people do not know basic facts about the next leader of the free world, and it seems that if you are GOP, you're less likely to know what Obama's religion is...same if you're under- (or un-) educated, same if you're a fundamentalist. Combine all three, and chances are you're waaay off base...not necessarily any one particular person (say, you), just statistically. It's hard to make a rational decision about someone when you don't know the facts...even harder if you have a strong belief in 'facts' which are false, wrong, erroneous, imaginary.
Whether Obama's personal faith is relevant to the job he's applied for could make an interesting topic for a future discussion, but who a person chooses to be their invisible friend is isn't relevant to the premise of this discussion.

I think he needs more wisdom and judgement before being handed this heavy baton in foreign policy. Barbara, you did not do YOUR homework. On the Troops to Teacher web page is an "Eligibility" link which opens a pdf file explaining academic requirements for eligibility. I believe it says something about a Baccalaureate or advanced degree for teaching academics...no extra credit for you!

On Taxation
I am very worried about Obama's plan to raise taxes on those earning over 250M. A business partnership made up of two or three partners may look wealthy on the books but in reality be sustaining multiple households. I have decided that I will NOT pay any more taxes - I will add my voice to the call for a revolt should the government decide to increase taxes. My personal tax profile is 38.65%. Enough is enough. The government HAS to do better with the resources it extracts from the citizens of this country.

Why not a combination of Obama and McCain's plans that could cover the broad spectrum of problems with the current system. New workers need "portability" with their coverage AND their employee savings and investment plans. Pharmaceutical companies need a reasonable profit to re-invest in their research, but not at the expense of fixed incomes. Children MUST be covered somehow w/o this becoming a kind of "reward" to women who are irresponsible about sex, marriage, and reproduction.
