I agree that my first post, and possibly this one too, could be written better. I believe 'holy matrimony' is what God has ordained the church to do so that offspring of two believers are sanctified (assured citizenship in heaven until they are old enough to seek for themselves). Same-sex unions, by design, are incapable of reproducing. What then would be the need for a 'holy matrimony'? Civil Unions, like divorce, are socially moral ways of dealing with the non-holy aspects of life choices. (I am not being a moral elitist here either as I was joined in holy matrimony to a person that I divorced - we had no children. I later had a civil ceremony performed by a JOP and had several children.) I don't doubt that same-sex couples can feel one in spirit and flesh - but the fact is that they aren't one in flesh. To pretend they are is ridiculous and appears to mock what God has ordained and in my opinion also results in one partner playing an unnatural role (or become subjected to a lie). All who have a hand in that are guilty of the mockery and leading others astray.

What goes on Earth is NOT what goes in Heaven. The parable of the Wedding Feast that Jesus tells in Matthew 22 is pretty clear about what happens to those who attempt to get to heaven without understanding and adhering to certain 'customs' of heaven. I feel strongly that we should accommodate civil unions for social reasons - mainly for the children that gays are adopting and parenting to belong to a unit of support that is official. Is it God's way? No. Is it a better way than continuing endless debate and controversy? I think it is.

Re: Video from public forum over gay marriage ban

If I could testify at the hearing I'd say this: Preserve the traditional definition of marriage for the collective welfare of society; provide a safety net for the wayward out of unconditional love of humanity. I believe that just as the biblical eunuch in Jesus time was either born that way, made that way by man, or chose to be one, so it goes in our age relative to homosexuality. Jesus said, those who can accept this will but that not all can accept this. Jesus understood so well the human condition -- his focus was on restoring the fallen human condition to attainment of spiritual wholeness because the physical body is but temporary housing. Christians mean well in attempting to preserve marriage - one flesh - between one man and one woman. [Exactly how do two males or two females become 'one sanctified flesh' and thereby sanctify their offspring?] The church's concern is the sanctification of children - as it should be. Christ's concern is saving souls for eternal life and sexual immorality (of all types) corrupts ones spirit and destroys flesh. He could neither be for or against homosexuality because in His Kingdom there is no male, nor female; and no marriage. I wish the government would stay out of the 'marriage' business. I wish gays would be happy with 'civil unions' for their own protection from hurt and disease. Marriage is a holy sacrament and civil unions are socially responsible. God's choice cannot be legislated because it is a heart condition.

Re: Hurley says gay marriage offends God, calls for laws curbing homosexual acts

I believe that just as the biblical eunuch in Jesus time was either born that way, made that way by man, or chose to be one, so it goes in our age relative to homosexuality. Secondarily, for me, it means less government and leadership that exemplifies high standards (leaders that don't cheat on their taxes, leaders that treat all people with dignity, leadership that is diverse and collaborative, and not 'exempt' from laws applicable to citizenry). Practical defense and foreign policy is important too. I don't require my leaders to be super religious, just moral!

Re: King, Bachmann plan to ‘foment revolution,’ attack health care reform

I'm sorry...the ad on this page that tends to demonize large corporations needs addressed too. Global justice is occurring to a degree because of solid U.S. corporations abroad. Infrastructure and decent paying jobs are lifting Indian and African people out of poverty. We decry jobs going overseas yet plead for social justice (for Americans only, tho?). Capitalism is not the be all end all. Neither is it completely evil. Distribution of wealth is occurring globally, if not in the U.S. And it's because of the 'C' word. Nothing more out of me for awhile now...said my piece.

Re: King, Bachmann plan to ‘foment revolution,’ attack health care reform

One more thought, why should less educated Americans be made to feel incapable of processing information to get at good decisions. I am disturbed by the prevalence of arrogant elitism. It took grit, determination, and morality of the average person coupled with the intellectual, philosophical soundness, and morality of the scholarly to make this nation great. Snarkiness and condescension are so unbecoming. (if GB has facts right, insurance profits are in line, it's railroad and soda makers
fleecing us.) We should do what is right and unite on one thing: preventive health care for all American CHILDREN. It only makes sense when you consider they are paying for it anyway! I support this Declaration of Health care Independence on principle. And if the Tea Party solidifies around Conservative (fiscal) - Moderate (social) principles, I'm on board! Balance the budget, help the children, reduce the size of Federal government. Let states govern and protect the their people, let the Feds protect the states from physical/cyber threats, educate our people on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Maddow and Olbermann are commentators whose arrogant and narrow-minded opinions are a scourge in MSM. They are the very components in society that drive the right even further right - which is NOT a good thing. So why waste time listening to them?! They don't have anything worthwhile to contribute until they can control their sneering, snarky, disrespectful attitudes. They bring the UGLY out. One of the worst moments Olbermann had really opened my eyes to the hate behind his views. His post VP debate commentary was nothing short of lewd barfing on the interested viewers! It sickened me to watch him and I will never again spend more than one second looking at or listening to him again.

An excerpt from S. Kurtz's "Wright 101" -->The adolescent Rites of Passage movement that flowered in the 1990s grew out of the “cultural nationalist” or “Pan-African” thinking popular in radical black circles of the 1960s and 1970s." (You can find out more if you google "Rites of Passage and Obama" together.) And then take a moment to read the following (an excerpt from Saul Alinsky's Primer for Radicals):

From Rules for Radicals, Alinsky outlines his strategy in organizing, writing:
"There's another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution."[2] http://latter-rain.com/ltra...

Emphasis: They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution. OKAY. Obama has started a revolution. But do YOU understand which kind of revolution it really is: militant black? progressive liberal? ANYTHING other than what we've had? or is he what he claims to be: Christian, pro-America, catalyst for the right kind of change in the Whitehouse?

How can we KNOW? We can't - we trust, or we don't.

Re: King doesn’t trust Obama because of his upbringing

The antithesis of Obama's educational justice for our black citizenry is this:
"Political issues are a distraction," he says, "from personal, psychological issues—things that happen in our households." The problems of his community are "not about racism," he insists. "They are about deep emotional deficits. Our young men are growing up dysfunctional, and instead of trying to help them, we blame white people. We champion the problem and call it a virtue. If you're not angry or psychotic, you're denying your blackness."
http://www.city-journal.org...

Instead, Obama's values and, YES, upbringing have led him onto the Annenburg path, where young blacks are 're-educated' using:
"Rites of Passage
To learn what the rites of passage movement was all about, we can turn to a sympathetic 1992 study published in the Journal of Negro Education by Nsenga Warfield-Coppock. In that article, Warfield-Coppock bemoans the fact that public education in the United States is shaped by “capitalism, competitiveness, racism, sexism and oppression.” According to Warfield-Coppock, these American values “have confused African American people and oriented them toward American definitions of achievement and success and away from traditional African values.” American socialization has “proven to be dysfuntional and genocidal to the African American community,” Warfield-Coppock tells us. The answer is the adolescent rites of passage movement, designed “to provide African American youth with the cultural information and values they would need to counter the potentially detrimental effects of a Eurocentrically oriented society.”

The adolescent rites of passage movement that flowered in the 1990s grew out of the “cultural nationalist” or “Pan-African” thinking popular in radical black circles of the 1960s and 1970s." -- Wright 101, S.Kurtz

Re: King doesn’t trust Obama because of his upbringing

Imagine, a politician with an 'undisciplined mouth'? The Gravina Access Project was one of 17 high priority projects in the state of Alaska funded by the “Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century." All states have access to the federal infrastructure funds for improving their tourism, their surface transportation, their business and land development. (For each State, the Act specifies a certain share of the aggregate funding for the following programs: Interstate Maintenance (IM), National Highway System (NHS), Bridge, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement, Surface Transportation Program (STP), Metropolitan Planning, High Priority Projects, Appalachian Development Highway System, Recreational Trails...)

Alaska's previous governor, Murkowski, was involved in early evaluations of the state's infrastructure needs. No real progress was made until Sarah Palin's Secretary of Transportation studied appropriate ways to utilize the available funding resources. The Gravina Access project was controversial and difficult to implement for many reasons. And Palin had to halt the stalled project in order to do something more immediately productive with the infrastructure funds available to the state. http://gov.state.ak.us/arch...

Re: UI Hawkeye Poll: 42 percent of voters can’t identify Obama’s religion

RegJoe, what feeds YOUR prejudices? I find liberals/democrats to be extremely mocking, antagonistic people who care little about respecting others and preserving dignity. Also, if you think that religion- or lack of- isn't a huge player in what motivates or guides a person, you are limited in your power of reason. Anything less will bring about change we probably deserve but would not want!

Re: UI Hawkeye Poll: 42 percent of voters can’t identify Obama’s religion

JKIR, you may appreciate this Howard Stern clip " Do Obama Supporters Know the Difference Between Obama McCain Policies?....http://entertainmentjam.polijam.co...

Re: UI Hawkeye Poll: 42 percent of voters can’t identify Obama’s religion

Ok then, Regular Joe, tell us why YOU believe Obama is better on foreign policy than McCain, please?

Re: UI Hawkeye Poll: 42 percent of voters can’t identify Obama’s religion

HOW OFFENSIVE!!!!!
"Another possible factor responsible for voters mistaking Obama’s religion may be tied to a voter’s education level, the poll found. Seventy-two percent of those who believe Obama is Muslim have not graduated from college. Moreover, the poll found that nearly 14 percent of those who identify themselves as born-again or evangelical Christian think Obama is a Muslim, compared to 6.6 percent of non-evangelical voters."

COULDN'T BE SOMETHING BIASED IN THE POLLING QUESTIONS, COULD THERE? Many thinking, educated people have legitimate concerns about the influence of Obama's formative years. And, it would seem that in his political years it was expedient to partner-up with a Christian identity (albeit, a variant form of Christianity).

Here's a source of some good reading (esp Wright101): http://www.eppc.org/ spelling out many of the reasons why McCain is the only choice for this period in American history. I really feel that Obama needs to cure a bit longer in the Congress and run for President when we have a better handle on the state of foreign affairs in the Middle East. Here's an informative link on the complexities of the troops withdrawal timeline: http://www.understandingwar....... As you read these things, bear in mind the controversies over Obama's heritage and ask yourself this, how can I be assured that Obama has a deeper loyalty to America and American Heritage than he does for his father's kin and sharia law? I do NOT believe Obama is a terrorist. I believe he is an important leader of this nation and a fascinating man with something important to contribute to this society. However, since Obama is not inclined to make a public confession of his Christian faith, it is not out of line to wonder if his studies of the Quran between the formative years of 2 and 10 took seed in his heart. I think he needs more wisdom and judgement before being handed this heavy baton in foreign policy. I am fearful of the star status and the amount of campaign funding coming from Islamic nations to Obama (http://www.americanthinker...., as well as how the likes of Louis Farrakhan perceive Obama's rise to power. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: McCain robocall tries to tie Obama to Ayers

Want to know more? On the Troops to Teacher web page is an "Eligibility" link which opens a pdf file explaining academic requirements for eligibility. I believe it says something about a Baccalaureate or advanced degree for teaching academics...no extra credit for you!
