I have a Mac and iPhone but do not have the illusion that Apple cares about me. There products add more utility to me for their cost than the other products I have found. Part of those 'costs' are the closed nature of the products. As soon as I find more utility somewhere else for a lower cost I will probably move fairly quickly. I am really upset with the iPhone execution (low battery, low call signal, lack of ability to tether under the contract, high price relative to competition $80/month minimium, etc.) Whenever I send a crash report to Apple I always put in the comments something like "I thought this was an Apple; not a PC".

Apple, like Google, only cares about their bottom line. As soon as they stop adding value their customers will flock somewhere else.

Re: New York Times says Grown Up Digital a “must read”

What is the New York Times? Oh wait, I would google them if I actually cared about them ... just another statist propaganda outlet that is not to be trusted.

Re: Obama intends to reinvent democracy

"This may address a glaring defect in our political system -- the lack of a mechanism enabling government to benefit on an ongoing basis from the knowledge that a nation can collectively offer. "

The large welfare state governments of today are barbarous relics of a bygone age. The question is how to implement change without having too much collateral damage as these antique machines collapse to the ground. Barack is suprior to Clinton but far from a useful solution like Ron Paul. Statism is simply an excuse for violence and these types of human management livestock practices are immoral and unethical because owning and enslaving humans is wrong. Therefore they need to be abolished. As if that were not bad enough they are a horribly inefficient way to allocate wealth.

I suppose if governments run by Boomers keep stealing and repressing with Patriot Acts and Bailouts, which is their inherently corrupt nature, then one only needs to look at Greece to see what will happen. Of course, this is but the first of the clashes that will occur between Millennials and the Boomers as they fight over the entrails of the decrepit and decaying Ponzi scam of Social Security. By 2016 there will be 112M Millennials and 78M Boomers. An upgrade is coming to humanity.

Re: Tough times, tough decisions

Eeek, that is always a tough thing to do. But cash is king in this environment. Additionally, cash-flow is going to be vital for survival so your premptive thinking may be the difference between your company surviving and not.

Also, you may want to make sure your cash is safe. Most US banks are in extremely perilous conditions. With my businesses I keep my cash at safe offshore banks and draw down on LoCs for operating expenses.

I heard a nightmare story about a small business with 70 employees up in Pasadena, CA. When IndyMac went down they lost their account. The business basically imploded as the owner could not meet payroll and had no access to cash. The time to take precautions is early and because they had not made sure their cash was safe and secure by reducing counter-party risk they paid the price.

Re: Micro communications for your business with Yammer

I think your article has convinced me to give yammer a try.

Re: Let someone tell you how much your pitch sucks

That is a very helpful article. I have found that most VCs seem to have ADD so keeping their attention is key. The best way to do that is for them to be asking the questions about what they are interested in. The low # of slides suggestion is money. Phone is a bad idea unless you know the people. Also, money follows management. Having 3rd party creditability is key; someone the VC knows who vouches for you behind the scenes.

Re: Don’t Hassel the Hof, David Hasselhoff

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a HOFF BAG!

Re: Rev2: Calling All Great Writers

This is great. Not only is the 'future of learning is mobility' but so is the future of work. I wonder how long it will be before most learning takes place via the internet. The age of the lecturer is dwindling and I wonder if the classes are going to begin changing like the infrastructure.

Re: The Dangers Of Citizen Journalism

Yes, journalism is an extremely important profession that can change the world. As von Mises said, 'Ideas can only be overcome by other ideas.' and 'Money and force are impotent against the power of ideas.' However, many are individuals are silenced in an attempt to stop their bulletproof ideas. But it is ideas that move the world. Just think of the student standing in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square.

Unfortunately, being a journalist in the US or UK can, if you attempt to speak on certain topics, just as dangerous as being a journalist in China or North Korea. Ultimately, nothing can stop and idea whose time has come.

Re: About Dria

That is really cool that you enjoy your job so much. I know I sure appreciate Firefox (similar as David; been using Firefox for about 2 years on a Mac) so thank you your hard work.

IE has been rendering my theme poorly for my readers so I have been recommending Firefox which is now up to about 34.97% share (Oct-Dec).

Re: iFail: Will Apple be forced to recall the iPhone 3G?

The new update seems to have helped quite a bit. I still have my battery drained pretty quickly while it is searching for a good signal and when I use the 3G internet. If I turn 3G off and use only Edge it seems to give no problem with draining the battery. I do love the iPhone and it is vastly superior to my previous phone. But overall, considering the cost I am pretty disappointed with Apple's execution of the iPhone and iPhone 3G.

Re: Firefox 3’s First 24 Hours

Wow, I had no idea the volume of bandwidth Firefox was slurping. That is amazing that you were able to handle it.

I have noticed a significant increase over the last couple months (Oct-Dec) with Firefox's market share among my visitors at 34.97%.

This is good because my theme does not seem to load as well with IE which is annoying. I recommend they switch to Firefox :)

Re: Apple I-Phone run by the BoogeyMan…

I have an iPhone and really enjoy it.
