She runs a group called StartupChicks at http://startupchicks.net. She'll have plenty of successful startup women for you to interview.

Re: Google’s New Layout: Love it or Hate It?

I like it a lot better; always hated the flush left margin. While it's sad to loose the page size indicator I really never looked at them anyway. I do think the useless space below the logo and above the search results is, well, useless.

Re: Are You a Trust Agent

Look forward to it. We might be able to get you an audience in addition to the Atlanta Social Media Club including from the group I organize (http://atlantawebentrepreneurs.org) and maybe more.

Re: How to fund your startup from customers

Micah,

There are many more reasons to go to Startup Events besides hoping someone will write you a check. You should go to meet people, form relationships, learn from them, and build your network of people so when the time comes you can have the relationships in place to form the best team.

I know from experience what happens when you just spend time at home working on your startup and don't engage it the broader community. I did exactly that 1994 thru 2006. What happened? I was never able to add to great people on top of my initial great team because I didn't know many people besides my employees, and when my company was profitable and growing I wasn't able to get the investment I needed because nobody in the investment community knew me.

Of course the fact I organize a monthly meeting via AWE means that my advocating attendance may appear self-interested but there are many other groups and activities besides mine; AWE is just one of many you can participate in and if you chose never to attend AWE and only the others you'd find great benefits. And please realize my group is mostly a labor of love with me trying to contribute to the community; AWE currently has no sponsors so it's not like I'm getting a salary from the group.

-Mike

Re: How to fund your startup from customers

Jeff:

Yet another excellent post; not a logic flaw to be found!

BTW, I could be wrong but I think many of us in Atlanta who are planning to stay in Atlanta actually ARE beyond the complaining. That's what ASE 2.0 was last night; the start of a focus on what it takes to make startups work. In Atlanta.

And wonder of wonders, focusing on creating companies that produce things that real customers will buy is IMO exactly what we need to be doing.

Re: engel - 9 Tips to Narrow the Gap Between the Audience and the Developer

You should have hyperlinked TwitKit so readers don't have to google it...

Re: Fire Signal Server - The Inspiration Behind Laconi.ca?

Ah, very cool. The idea behind
laconi.ca, if I understand correctly, is that your followers, your posts,
your content, follows you to whatever supported microblogging platform you
move to. If Twitter deletes your followers and they're a supported
platform, it's okay, because the other servers all have localized copies as
well. If identi.ca goes down, you could re-route to another supported site
and post and get updates there and they would appear again on identi.ca when
it came back up. That's the idea behind it, I think.

Re: Fire Signal Server - The Inspiration Behind Laconi.ca?

Interesting. I don't immediately see the use cases, but maybe it's because I'm up far later than I should be. Any chance you could elaborate on possible use-cases?

Re: Why Twitter Must Die

Having only just re-visited twitter after an aborted start a year ago, I'm finding surprising value in it this time. Maybe it has matured since then, or maybe it was me.

It did feel weird that a week after I started using it again there were all these problem. But I've run a fast growing company in the past and know how hard it can be. It seems some people are extremely fickle, and have rather lofty expectations especially for a free service. How about hanging out in Darfur for a while (for example), and see if your expectations of things change. It's no wonder the world thinks we North America's a spoiled rotten, we are.

Whatever, things will evolve and either Twitter will do better or not, but no need to attack it. You are leaving Twitter? On the balance, I'd say it's your loss.

JMTCW.

Re: Rapid Fire - Sunday, July 20

Hey, thanks for the link! I wish more people would contemplate the value of globally unique identifiers for people *and* resources.

Re: Identi.ca implements the Twitter API (Scripting News)

I agree, this is an incredibly positive thing! All too often corporate ego or even developer ego gets in the way of common sense and pragmatism and what results are incompatible APIs. Hat's off to Evan Prodromou's wisdom. APIs are like the 3 prong electric plug; why would anyone think it makes any sense to build one differently when there are so many otherwise compatible electric outlets available?

That said, it's unfortunate that this Twitter standard that is being cemented is RCP-over-HTTP instead of truly RESTful services with resources-as-nouns and the HTTP GET/POST/PUT/DELETE as the only verbs. From experience that concern, which to some might appear as overly pedantic actually does provide some tangible benefits. But alas, nothing is ever perfect.

Re: Three Reasons To Use Disqus

Cool!

Re: Three Reasons To Use Disqus

I've sent this feature request to the disqus guys

Thanks

fred

Re: An interview with Daniel Ha from Disqus

Disqus comments cause the page to print awfully! Think you could convince Daniel to fix that?

Re: Three Reasons To Use Disqus

One reason NOT to use Discuss...

Actually, this is more of a feature request for Disqus and for your blog. When I find blog posts with lots of comments such as this one I often print them for reading off-line (I use FinePrint and print 4 up per sheet, so I don't kill *that* many trees.)

Unfortunately when I tried to print this page it showed up in print preview as 50 pages when it could probably be easily represented in 8 page! So I didn't print it and won't be reading the comments (too many for online reading, at least for me)

So please considering fixing your theme so it prints better, and please consider fixing Disqus so that I at least have the option of printing this page in a format that is highly optimized for printing. If you do that, for me, Disqus would be a killer service!
