Yes, I know you can increase the size of the font but just the "normal" view should be bigger. It's not friendly to those with visual impairments. They are trying to squeeze too much text in, at least on their front page. Once you go to an individual story, it's okay.

Re: Twitter's lists (Scripting News)

Any chance of getting unblocked? In fact, it was always a surprise to me when I reread over the TOU because they were very reasonable guidelines but ones that obviously weren't rigorously enforced.

People plagiarize Mashable content ALL the time, passing along your article titles & links without noting that they are a RT of @Mashable. There are very popular Twitterers who never acknowledge that they are RTing other people's Tweets. And what the adult film stars whose profile backgrounds show them partially or completely nude? I doubt Twitter will want to police background images and draw a line over what is obscene and what isn't.

My main concern is, although it's not emphasized, Twitter is supposed to be an environment for users 14 years and older (even I've run into users as young as 9 years old). I'm not the parent police but the sexual hashtag talk gets over the top & just plain nasty at times. Sometimes, it's just a sewer of misogyny. Is there any motivation on Twitter's part to make this website free of hate speech? I can't see that happening.

Re: HOW TO: Use Twitter’s Advanced Search Features

Liz, thanks so much for bringing this to our attention.

Re: HOW TO: Use Twitter’s Advanced Search Features

Saw your article cut & pasted on this blog: http://malarkynews.com/how-to-use-twitter’s-adv.... Soon, Twitter will go the way of Xerox & Kleenex, just become a generic way to describe some forms of communication. I can see where they'd like to trademark their company name but they shouldn't be able to control the use of common words. Just imagine if AT&T owned the rights to "telephone" or "phone"!

Re: Twitter’s 20 Most Prolific Spammer Avatars [Pics]

I get followed by that top avatar (usually using the name of "Shelly Ryan") at least once a day, one day it was three different accounts using the same photo. In today's Twitter world, that would probably be 60K-70K followers if his account had continuted to grow at the same rate. A lot of people likely thought this was crazy but I know he's glad he did it.

I think this problem only becomes an issue when you Auto-Follow everyone who follows you. You should never follow someone automatically without checking them out, to see what they are contributing to your Tweetstream (following real people, ignoring or blocking spammers).

I found, for me, following more than 500 people means you can't keep up with the Tweets you are sent. But I still try to read as much as I can, time-wise. It's probably only 10% of the messages I receive but it is better than just answering @replies and Direct Messages.

Everyone has to find a system that works for them and that system can change over time and as your following number changes.

P.S. If you want to stop receiving Auto-DMs, you can eliminate most of them by following the instructions at @OptMeOut, a Do Not Call list for Tweet Later.

Re: Sarah Palin Divorce Rumor Debunked on Facebook

She can just change her username to make it a personal account.

Re: Lawsuit Happy Landlord Horizon Realty Responds to Twitter Controversy

See, but that's exactly the point. The fact that you admittedly "will associate Horizon with incompetence" has nothing to do with the fact that Horizon is actually incompetent (maybe they are, I don't know). It has everything to do with the fact that this woman aired her gripes to the detriment of the company, and Horizon had no means of recourse. Regardless of whether the Tweet went out to two people, twenty, or two thousand, your assertion that, as an objective third party, Horizon's image has been sullied as a result of this tweet could be legitimate fodder for a defamation suit.

Re: Lawsuit Happy Landlord Horizon Realty Responds to Twitter Controversy

Okay, so she sued them first and it sounds like they were trying to dig up dirt on her. Whether or not her case has merits can be determined by an outside inspector.

My guess is that some summer intern discovered this Tweet and Horizon completely mistook its importance within the communication circle that is Twitter/social networking (i.e. thousands of Tweets going out a minute, a fraction of which are seen & read).

First, very few people (20?) saw this Tweet and it is unlikely that it went any further that airing a gripe until this lawsuit turned it into something bigger. Bottom line: I'll never remember the name of the woman who Tweeted this, I don't care if there was mold or not, but I will associate Horizon with incompetence.

They keep digging a bigger hole, I don't know how they can get out of this one with their arrogant attitude.

Re: 4chan Versus Twitter: Round One

James is right, I don't think it was 4Chan: http://partyvan.info/wiki/Away_Mission_Gorillap... (shudder, scroll past the ugly image). I can't control the ads that Facebook shows or what its policy is but I would never consent to giving an advertiser access to my "social graph," epecially information on my friends & family.

You could argue that this is already being done by charities we give money to, magazines we subscribe to, credit & discount cards we use. I have little control over that but at least I'm aware they are going to sell data on me. But in areas where I do have some control, I say "it's none of your business!" They predicted that if this trend continued, Twitter could "only" expect 10% growth rate. Respectable, to be sure, but not the exponential growth investors have come to expect in 2009.

Twitter powers that be seem to be positioning Twitter as another form of media, an information network or real-time search engine rather than as a social network. And people ordinarily have a stronger loyalty to their social networks than their online sources of information. There are innumerable sources for news, information and celebrity gossip on the Internet but each social network is unique and usually is not portable from one website to another.

For sustained, long-term growth, Twitter has to find a way to integrate visitors and new users into the existing "Twitterverse" by making it easier to find others in the same occupation, geographic area or who have similar interests but I'm doubtful at this point that they want to move in this direction. And without growing a loyal userbase, Twitter can be replaced by the next, new & shiny real-time search engine that comes along. And there are always people out there innovating existing technologies so it is bound to arise whether it is 6 months from now or 2 years.

Re: Tweet To Win: Free VIP Tickets to #140conf!

Great!
