To be fair - the rapid transit station by Oakridge has only been there for a few years (about how long it takes to plan a massive redevelopment here) and here is an image of the proposed development for the site (still in flux): http://www.cbc.ca/news/cana...

also - the photos may be deceiving as the mall has rooftop parking - so a large portion of what looks like surface parking is actually the mall. Which is not to say there isn't an excess of surface parking!

(can't believe I'm defending a mall with surface parking)

The most exotic place I've been has probably been Albania... and sadly, I didn't come across much handmade stuff there but we did buy some bracelets from kids outside a UNESCO site there - they were persistent but polite!

I looooove buying stuff that supports good causes - another example that might interest you is the Leaky Collection.

Um. My earthquake kit DOES have a hand-crank radio, space blanket, and iodine tablets... does that make me weird or super prepared? (I did forget emergency knitting supplies though!) As an urbanite who thinks about the apocalypse... I do feel our food supply vulnerability. I've often wondered if I could buy shares in a local farm/homestead that gives me the right to come live on the farm if/when everything goes to hell.

I wish I was an advanced enough knitter to do the Congdon Cardigan - I love that it is a modest grey with a bold pop of intense colourwork. But the Chromaticity Cowl seems more doable for my experience level and is fabulous too.
