When you say you "didn't do that level of analysis", I assume you mean that you haven't made a summary of all the Friday nights that Moonlight aired and how it ranked against its competition in its timslot.
Edit: From what I can tell for Moonlight's 16 new episodes it won the 18-49 demo 12 times and tied once and it won overall at least 8 out of 16. The last four episodes that aired in April and May won both the 18-49 and overall.

Re: CBS Fall Schedule: Will Ex-List Do Better Than Moonlight?

Bill: Yeah, but apparently we're all old and decrepit.

Re: CBS Fall Schedule: Will Ex-List Do Better Than Moonlight?

Robert: Yeah, but it was on Friday nights. I guess CBS doesn't grade on a curve. It seems like it's apples and oranges to compare Friday and Saturday night ratings against weeknight ratings. They need a new formula for Friday night shows. Every viewer should be counted as 1.5.

Re: CBS Fall Schedule: Will Ex-List Do Better Than Moonlight?

I thought that in addition to usually winning its timeslot overall that Moonlight also won in the 18-49 demographic as well.? Reading another one of TV by the Numbers articles, it sounds like the 18-49 crowd was at Univision on Friday nights.

Re: CBS Fall Schedule: Will Ex-List Do Better Than Moonlight?

I wonder how Nielsen verifies its accuracy to the networks and advertisers, or do they just take Nielsen's word for it?

Re: It’s Official: CBS Passes on Moonlight

I know it's silly, but I used to tune into some other CBS shows just to get a look at the Moonlight promo that week. I won't be doing that anymore.

Re: TVbytheNumbers Cancellation Index

Not to make your calculations more complicated, but it also seems like the networks have different expectations for different nights of the week. Anyway you can add that to your calculations? It does seem to be pertinent.

Re: Nielsen Ratings: May 16, 2008: Au Revoir Moonlight

I think broadcast television needs to "shift its paradigm". From the entertainment news I've been reading, the 18-34 crowd that CW and other broadcast networks are trying to cater to are not into traditional television viewing but in watching shows online. So it seems like broadcast television is abandoning the middle aged and older audience that is comfortable with television for one that is just not interested. I think they should shift their focus to making shows online for the younger crowd and shows on television for us old fogeys.

After a few more years, there just may not be a desire for broadcast television anyway. Until this television season, I had gotten away from broadcast television and was watching mainly cable networks. This year broadcast offered some interesting looking series like Moonlight, Journeyman, Chuck, Pushing Daisies, etc. and so I tuned in again.

It just seems like between broadcast, cable, and the internet that a show like Moonlight with a loyal audience of seven to eight million viewers should be able to find a home.
