Like A Fox!

A couple of my family members on Facebook took a poll that asked, in all seriousness, "Should the Obama Administration shut down Fox news?" Options given were (1) Yes (2) No (3) It's unconstitutional. What the inspiration for this was, I have no idea.

Now, this poll came out of some FB app called "Political Polls," and for all I know it was meant as a joke; however, it was not received as such by my Fox-watching family (one of whom posted comments about how we have to wake up before it's too late, etc etc).

Actual studies of media have shown Fox viewers to be misinformed and/or uninformed on all major issues -- but these studies don't tend to get covered by Fox. For some reason.

Re: And the Healthcare Reform Disaster Continues...

lasquires, science has come a very long way since bloodletting. This seems like a straw argument to me.

The scientific method is a damn good way of understanding therapies and probable outcomes -- as such, the scientific method has proven that prayer does not have a measurable, therapeutic value.

Does this mean prayer has no value at all? Not if the person praying thinks it does, I suppose. Let people pray all they want, just don't involve the government or government funds, and don't try to tell me it's as good as medical science.

Re: I Get Discussed in Forums

Liss, I know you didn't post this to solicit praise, but -- damn, you're amazing.

Re: Question of the Day

Spudsy, we had that same skeleton. Hadn't thought of it in some time.

Fears? I guess witches. Definitely the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. Also, the album cover of a record my mom played a lot: Dvorak's "The Noon Witch." Cover was a photo of a woman got up in green creepiness -- though she looked a little more sea-weedy than witchy. As a kid it scared the shit out of me. When I saw it again later it was laughable.

Re: More Law & Order Fail

Even with what I call my L&O addiction, I'm falling behind on these shows and it's because they have been getting more and more stupid. I saw the SVU treatment of Lahti's character and just kind of figured -- okay, as tolerant as I am of this franchise (much more than others are) this is just terrible. It's bad writing, it's the misuse of a really fine actor, and it makes it impossible to ignore the dumbass "character" stuff they've been doing with the regulars because they'd all lose their jobs if they were scrutinized like this DA character was.

The regular Law & Order had a totally unconvincing episode recently in which Jeremy Sisko's cop character falls for a pathological liar woman (the two didn't have any screen chemistry and the affair was completely out of character for the cop). Yeah, I know, the lying woman.

May just be time to pack it in. If the producers of the show won't, I guess I can.

Re: To tutu or not to tutu?

Excellent, Misty.

Re: Daily Kitteh

I love that the caption was exactly what I thought she was thinking! He recalled seeing her on stage but professed some confusion about how large her fan base was among Teh Gayz. Not to knock the guy, because he was actually very nice if old school, but Bea obviously had no problem at least metaphorically walking in someone else shoes. That obviously made her not only a fine actor but a very genuine person.

Thanks for posting this!
