even though Pandora may be geotarded and I can't use the service I don't
blame them for the situation since I was a user from day one they announced
the service. I just wish this - like other important matters (unlike whether
Twitter is federated or not or some such stupid things) was getting more of
a push across all the different blogospheres since this kind of activities
by people like RIAA and SoundExchange are just the tip of the iceburg of a
political system listening to big bucks instead of the people who elected
them.

if you had read what I finished up with you would have seen that I
acknowledged that Last.FM is available *VIA* the browser worldwide - *
HOWEVER* it is not the same case for last.fm on ht iPhone. In that case it
is geotarded . which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Carlos,

thank you very much for jumping in here as I think you input is extremely valuable. I will say that I didn't realize that Thomas Hawk had been involved with your situation as much has he has been and for that I commend him. I just wanted to say at this point much like I did in the FriendFeed thread on this post that I wasn't trying to be negative towards Thomas but rather I wanted a headline that accomplished two objectives

1. get people attention to a very serious issue and yes using Thomas' in such a fashion might make it seem sensationalistic but I won't apologies for doing so - because I believe this is that important
2. it was a slight inditement against the tech blogosphere that it takes using the name of one of their own favourite people in a headline to get their attention - considering I have written about this issue and your site before on thsi blog but it basically went nowhere.

I will say this issue and other social issues like this are something that is very important to me and an area I believe that I will increaasingly be writing about - someone has to shake up these tech heads :)

Keep up the good fight Carlos and I for one will be doing what I can do to help keep this issue in the forefront.

If you have a problem evaluating the quality or substance of a message where the majority of other commenters on the post don't seem to have then thre really isn't much that I can - or probably will ever be able to - do to change that. As for the income I recieve it is primarily for my writing on Mashable which go through an editor process as far as I know so if there was a problem with message clarity I would think that would have been raised between myself and whoever is the editor at that point in time for items being posted.

I don't get paid to be on padcasts either but isn't a message still a message regardless of the medium being used. A message being delivered in a blog post is no different whatsoever to one being delivered via a podcast. If you suggest that I am unable to provide a clear message via a blog post how is that any different from you trying to deliver your message via a podcast. Just as sentence structure might be ambiguous so can somebody on a podcast when you literally cannot follow the verbal trans of thought from one end to another.

As for it being an attack - sorry just stating a fact as far as I see it.

I had not known of Mr. Hawk's involvement with this issue via his blog as I
don't follow it. I have corrected that oversight and will be spending some
time there going over his old posts. I did however note on a FriendFeed
thread that Mr. Hawk was a supporter of Carlos Miller.

I agree with your assessment and I know if only for myself I plan on looking at and writing about technology and our society from more of a whole view rather the current idea of talking about tech for tech sake.

you are probably right Hutch about my blog not having a *photography
narrative* but I think that my interest is not just in what this story of
Carlos and Thomas is about but rather the larger social (the real social)
sphere and how we are being abused and restricted at a growing rate. this
episode with thomas and Carlos is really just the tip ofthe iceburg and
something that I think I will be writing more about. Social media is
*fun*but I don't see it as a real reflection of social changes that
need to be
made. Right now it seems to be more of a warm and fuzzy word used to make us
feel like we are a part of a *group* - but not really making any worthwhile
changes or correcting any injustices.

I first read it on Darren Rowse's feed entry and given the timezone
differences plus when I actrually would had it show up in my feed reader it
is possible that it is in the same time frame.
