Exactly. Are we disagreeing? :)

I am 100% okay with hierarchies in the church being flattened.

Re: Why Everyone Should Wear a Priest’s Collar

1. Babylonian Captivity of the Church
2. I see your line of reasoning. Maybe we should be asking the question, "Is/should the church be an 'institution' at all?" In other words, did Jesus ever intend for his Body to be an institution?

I don't think the answer is no leadership at all. That's chaos. And impossible. (The dirty little secret with "no leadership" is that there actually is leadership. Someone had to lead the decision to have no leadership.)

It's clear from Scripture that God intends to have leaders for his people. What I think Yoder is saying, and I agree with, is that the community of believers has a deeper role in leading the local church than they currently possess. I don't think having leaders is tantamount to being institutionalized.

Re: Why Everyone Should Wear a Priest’s Collar

Prod. In a word, yes. That's where Yoder's conclusion would eventually end up. It would be a logistical nightmare for where we find ourselves now in the West, but I think that's where Yoder would go.

Look at the emphasis of our beloved Luther: "“All of us who have been baptized are priests without distinction…the sacrament of ordination, therefore, can be nothing other than…choosing a preacher…”

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is a de-institutionalization as much as I would say it's a de-centralization of the power structure in the church.

Re: Work Like a Young Entrepreneur

You bet, bud. I'd recommend both Shane Hipps' book "Flickering Pixels": http://bit.ly/GlDcn and John Dyer's blog: http://donteatthefruit.com.

Both dudes are sharp and are navigating the concerns you bring up brilliantly.

Re: Why I Can’t Stand Microsoft

Chadley .... Certainly no one is charging Walmart or Fareway with "store design infringement"! However, if it was systemic, across the board, pervasive infringement might have a case.

Look at is this way: The last two of of Microsoft's huge marketing strategies ("I'm a PC" and The Microsoft store) have been directly borrowed from their competitor. That, to me, is lazy.

Re: Why You Need to Care About College Students

Wow. That's a huge testimony to the power of the "ripple." Why not try and "ripple" life-giving content, right?

I think you're dead-on with the assessment of websites–it's the new "front door" for business, organizations and churches. Well stated.

Re: Why You Need to Care About College Students

Thanks buddy. That is very well said. I think more than anything, I want people to see that they–even them!–can "get the ball rolling."

For instance, your church member who started the page got the ball rolling to where leadership MUST talk about it. Not optimal, but at least it gets the convo started, right?

The "why" is probably more important than the "how", but some people won't answer the "why" until the "how" has been implemented.

Re: Why You’ll Need a Digital Pastor

Ha ha.
