I don't expect to see 11g Rel 2 on OS X/Intel anytime soon, but I'd be pleased to be surprised about that.

More optimistic about XE; I think the porting team is tired of hearing from me on that subject. But hey, let's get an 11g XE out there first!

The approach is actually horizontal, not vertical (based on roles). Each of these roles has different types of needs, but that doesn't mean that the "complete, open, integrated" message doesn't apply equally to each role.

I still have my Tivo box, haven't re-purposed it yet.

I could have stuck with Tivo HD but the new box would have been $300 or so, whereas the DirecTV box was free.

I'm a Tivo fugitive. Loved it but alas a move to DirecTV HD made a move to the DirecTV DVR necessary.

I'm not complaining too much though; it's not half bad (see similar example: Windows 95 vs Mac System 7).

Just to get definitions straight: If the app doesn't involve enterprise data, it's not an enterprise app.

We learned a lesson years back when the concept of a hosted business intelligence apps/DWs emerged (remember "ASPs"?): Enterprises simply do not want to outsource management of business-critical data.

Can Google potentially kill MSFT's Office business someday (OpenOffice hasn't yet)? Sure. But that's not "enterprise computing" IMO.

To be fair, proponents of this idea have been clamoring for it via Oracle Discussion Forums for at least a year (with Kuassi's and my participation). So although Mix was a big help, I'd argue that the community has had a voice on this issue for a long while.

Mosaic Netscape, not too long after my first Internet forays via gopher etc. - that pre-Web toolset which was widely available in those "Internet in a Box" kits of the early 90s. This was the only popularly accessible alternative to AOL or Prodigy at that time, if I remember correctly.
