Every issue you listed is a feature designed to integrate with the life of a normal, mass-market, Internet user. I describe each feature here and why it’s a great product decision for them:

http://robberbaronblog.com/...

They aren't looking for the Scobleizer, they want Joe@aol.com.

Re: Path’s Playbook For Appealing To Normal People

Thanks Tyler, I really appreciate that link. It's the most useful thing I've read in months.

You/Paul bring up the point that people heavily segment their social networks in the offline world.

Do you think that people realize they should be able to do so online? When they think about "friends" online, do they associate that with one big group like on Facebook? Have they made the cognitive leap that they should have different segments in their online social networks or is that a new concept to them?

Re: Observing The Typical Internet User

That's a really great idea

Re: The New York Exit, The Soft Underbelly of NY Tech's Ecosystem, and IAC's Saving Grace

Why does it matter that Google isn't a NY company? As long as the leadership stays here, a Google NY acquisition doesn't harm our startup ecosystem. Is there another concern besides having our talent, experience, and future Angel Investors shipped out of NY?

Re: The New York Exit, The Soft Underbelly of NY Tech's Ecosystem, and IAC's Saving Grace

Google has a major office in NY, which is where some of the Foursquare team was after they sold Dodgeball. We didn't lose them then, and we got to claim Foursquare as a NY tech company as a result.

Google was off the table as a potential acquirer of Foursquare given the history, but that doesn't mean they're off the table for other startups. Under different circumstances, don't you think Google NY is the most likely big tech company to acquire a NY Startup?

Re: http://www.pheelmore.com/post/683664925

Thanks for the feedback.

What do you think about fitting your suggestions into these courses:

Investor relations: Equity Financing
Team Building and Scaling: Startup Operations
Legal: Startup Operations and Equity Financing

Team building is a extremely important and probably the most foreign for a new entrepreneur. It and should probably be the main focus of the Startup Operations course.

Legal does fit into Ops and Financing, but it probably deserves its own course.

Re: Course Catalog: Masters Degree in Internet Entrepreneurship

Pulling in a comment from Tumblr:

From Kyle Bragger http://kylewritescode.com/

"It should require each class to be taught by someone with extensive, hands-on experience and a proven track record in that field.

There needs to be a strong emphasis on always making stuff. Always back up what is taught and learned with hands-on, tangible stuff. Always. Let’s breed a generation of doers vs. talking-about-doing-stuff’ers."

I think there is a big frustration that Universities teach the theoretical as opposed to the practical. The year long "Launch an App" course was an attempt to integrate Doing over Talking About Doing. However, Kyle is right. All courses should be taught with hands on lessons instead of lectures. Each course should have a semester long project or mini projects that are direct applications of what the student is learning.

Re: Course Catalog: Masters Degree in Internet Entrepreneurship

Thanks Adam.

Adam,

I think you're right on all accounts.
1. I wonder if those with bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence would thrive in programming which has been dominated by those with logical-mathematical intelligence. The challenge would be to create languages, frameworks, or ways of creating code that would appeal to kinesthetic learners.

Re: Any programming n00bs want to learn Python with me and Julie?

I tried to do the same thing with @evbart. In that sense they
increased the market for classifieds.

If Craigslist managed to charge the same as print for those postings, then
margins would be up. Instead they dropped the price to zero for most and
are charging less for the categories they do charge for. Costs are lower,
but so is revenue.

They are projected to hit $100 Million this year. They effectively shrunk
the entire classifieds market to $100 Million, unless you think that the
print classifieds market was smaller than that to begin with.

Re: The Internet Destroys Profits

Craigslist is immensely profitable, but not when compared with the former size of the entire classifieds market. One site took out an entire market and in the process captured some of the revenue for themselves. It seems unlikely that the classifieds market as a whole will ever get back to its former levels of profitability.

Re: Jason Schwartz – about

Hi Fernando,

Thank you for reading and good luck with ChicagoNow.

Re: Delicious.com is for normal people

I'm assuming you mean this episode: http://www.twit.tv/206 ?
