(Ep. 414)

I was somewhat shocked and very dismayed by this episode. As a very long time listener I understand that Freakonomics comes from a center-right perspective. Yet I’ve always valued your fact-based and responsible presentation of issues. Hence my shock over this China episode. It came off as a pure propaganda piece for the Trump administration and Right Wing China-hawks. I understand that you wanted to avoid American politics in this episode. However, in doing so you in fact handed the Trump administration and Republicans a propaganda fluff piece that is ahistorical, shallow, factually incorrect in some cases and wholly misleading. Perhaps most troubling was the attempt to blame the entire COVID19 disaster on China while avoiding the astounding mishandling of this crisis by the Trump administration. Yes, China deserves a lot of blame for lying and misleading on the new coronavirus in December but Trump completely gutted Obama's pandemic preparedness system and even now fails to take the threat seriously...and 70,000+ Americans are dead as of today from this. This episode ranks among your worst and I encourage you to do a more balanced and honest follow up.

Re: Spring Outbreak of Wildfire Hits Southeast Australia; “Catastrophic” Threat Near Sydney

😱

Re: After Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, What Next for Karen?

Not yet!!!
