They're losing support and they're not even in power. If the economy even starts to pop back up expect those numbers to decline even further if they stay in obstructionist mode, which is the only mode they know. Palin is as unpopular as Pelosi and Pelosi's numbers are down because she's not aggressive enough in promoting a progressive agenda. So far so good.

Re: Palin to Iowa? -- Political Wire

She doesn't want to run for president, that would entail a lot of work. As for the budget issues, we're still operating under Bush's last budget until next month. Fact.

Re: Perry on Recession: "We're in one?" -- Political Wire

Unlike GWB, Clinton did not put hundreds of billions "off budget". At the end of Clinton's term, there was talk of what the country would do if the debt was eventually paid off and there wasn't a treasury market anymore because at that time we were looking at surpluses as far as the eye could see. It took GWB and the republican congress less than a year to turn that all around. They added over $5 trillion to our national debt starting from $200 billion a year surpluses. In fact, as of this moment, we are still operating under GWB's last budget which doesn't expire until next month. So aside from stimulus spending this year, a little over $100 billion, all of the deficits you see so far is Bush's. So much for the republican lie that Obama has already spent more since he's been in office than GWB did during his entire term, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $24 trillion for the past eight years. Not even anywhere near the truth. In fact, so unbelievably far from the truth you'd have to be a complete idiot to believe it, yet the ignoramuses in the repub party swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Re: Paglia: ‘Birthers’ Aren’t Racist, and They Have a Point

You must have missed it. BO has already released his BC and the State of Hawaii has confirmed that it is legitmate and correct. It states on the BC that he was born in Oahu. The republican administration of Hawaii said that that comports with what they have in their records. An individual can't call in and say such and such was born where ever. Hospital certificates are not official BCs. You don't request a copy of your birth certificate from a hospital, you get it from the state or county. Fortunately I have my hospital record, but I would never think to use it for an official purpose, driver's license, passport, etc. The repubs prey on ignorance and apparently there's quite of few folks out there in that category.

Re: Supreme Court Considers Obama Citizenship -- Political Wire

Wouldn't shut them up. Being born in a territory does not automatically grant you natural born status, for example, American Samoans are not full U.S. citizens but U.S. nationals. The fact that Obama was born in Honolulu, as stated on his birth certificate and verified by the HI Director of Health who looked at the original, from a natural born citizen, and that that fact is not disputed in the lawsuit I would think disqualify this case from being heard by the SCOTUS. But we're talking Clarence Thomas here so.........

Re: Supreme Court Considers Obama Citizenship -- Political Wire

Uh, Nixon resigned and nobody died.

Re: Borrow and Spend -- Political Wire

I live in Fort Lauderdale and you can see what the debt bought. There's hundreds of enormous yachts sitting down here that were bought with all that borrowing. In 1983 SS was set up to run a $185 billion a year surplus to pay for boomer retirement. That was all given away in tax cuts for the rich. That amounts to around $4.5 trillion. It ended up being a huge wealth redistribution program with the money coming from everyone's FICA contribution and going to the wealthiest among us.

Re: Palin Matters -- Political Wire

Beyond her qualifications issue is the fact that she lies so easily. I think with the weak field the repubs had he could have run as 2000 McCain and still have won the nomination. He could have picked Huckabee to mollify the fundies and would have had a good shot at the general. I think the 2008 McCain's judgement was clouded by wanting it too much and the pain of 2000 made him make the deals he did, which eventually turned out to be not too smart.

Re: The Best Campaign Ever -- Political Wire

The problem with Matthews is he isn't very deep, not very prepared and it takes some kind of obviously outrageous statement for him to wake up. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people make statements on his show that are known to be false yet he seems clueless half the time. He does have his good moments, but overall he can't hold a candle to Rachel Maddow as far as knowledge of what's going on.

Re: Quote of the Day -- Political Wire

The only thing tightening is his sphincter as he's looking at the polls.

Re: Obama Urged to Pick Cabinet Soon -- Political Wire

Maybe we can convince GWB to get the hell out of the way and leave early.
