Frugality is saving money on the things that aren't important so that you'll have money for the things that are important. I've seen this explanation several different places and absolutely love it, because what's important in my household (no debt, emergency fund, getaways, and coffee!) might not be exactly the same things that are important in yours. It's this flexibility that makes frugality rock!

I call it 'stupid' in the same way that I call my family traditions 'stupid': to the outside observer, a site about manhole covers is just as stupid as a family that eats a traditional ornament-shaped Christmas meatloaf. Stupid is relative (or relatives as the case may be), and 99% of the time the people involved in whatever is being called stupid won't see it as such.

With that said, I personally find Twitter a whole lot stupid-er than this particular site as Ittemia at least offers people with a shared interest a means of interacting and engaging around that interest in an organized and compartmentalized fashion. This same time of structure interaction (manholes here, fire hydrants there) would be impossible on Twitter which is one of many things that drives me ape$#it about it. But Twitter doesn't qualify for the stupidest site of 2008 as they've been around longer than this year...

LOL! Sorry Frank, I wasn't trying to call anyone as an individual stupid, per se. It's just that some of these Christmas traditions will definitely look odd, shall we say, to those who don't participate in them.

Oh, and I thought of another one for my family: Big Band music. After dinner we listen to Big Band music while we open presents.

Exactly! I *know* there are at least two people subscribed to this feed, one of whom is me ;-) Seriously, though: this morning at 8am eastern Feedburner showed 0 subscribers to my feed. At 11am eastern my subscribers were back. It's happened three times this week alone, and it's frustrating.

Good thing I just ate, or you would be making me hungry! As for nitrates,
there are several brands that are nitrate and preservative free. I know
Oscar Meyer makes one that is in most the 'normal' grocery stores around
here. Applewood Farms (I think) also makes a really good nitrate free bacon.
Granted, they cost more, but it's not like you're eating a pound a day,
right?

HOHOHO!!! I'm psyched for Christmas, and have decided to begin my festivities this weekend. Time to start making candies, put up the tree, and I might even string some popcorn and cranberries to put on the camellia outside (it's festive and feeds the birds).

Pan frying bacon takes *forever*. Four slices microwave in three and a half minutes, which isn't bad. Put two paper towels on a plate, then the bacon, then another paper towel. Take the top towel off for the last 30-45 seconds for crispier bacon. NOM!

Interestingly, though, 2 slices of Hormel turkey bacon only saves you 30 calories and and 3 grams of fat. Plus, you lose a gram of the protein and it's higher in sodium and cholesterol. Real bacon FTW! =D

April, the spam is an interesting point and may deserve a rant of it's own. Out of curiosity, who does the header show as the sender: the person who actually sent it to you or the email address that was used to put GFC on the site?
And like I said, the usefulness is still up in the air for me. As both a GFC user and site owner, I find myself wishing that I had a stream of new posts in my profile that shows updates to all the sites that I've joined. That and a pile of sites that my friends have joined for me to check out. Perhaps this is all stuff that's in the works, who knows.
