The jobs they do have to be done -- and paid for -- whether double dippers do the work or some one else.

I could buy your statement that Republicans/"conservatives" oppose Obama so vociferously because of his policies if he were making radical policy changes. But his politics are nearly indistinguishable from G.W. Bush's.
Asian wars? check
Financial sector bailout? check
Rendition for torture? check
Non-judicial trials of terror suspects? check
Support Israel unconditionally? check
Health care reform? He doesn't advocate reforming healthcare OR the insurance industry. All he's offering is mandatory insurance.
Surveillance of citizens? check
Federal control of education? check
Need I go on? The right wing has bumped its incendiary rhetoric up a notch (see Benway's link to John Perry article) because the racial aspect of the current political situation presents an opportunity for advantage. And apparently they don't care if they destroy civil society.

Obama's policies show loyalty to the status quo. The fearmongering and threats are not related to his policies. What's left? Race.

I didn't notice anyone asking the Gov if the kitchen sink is likely to make a dent in the problem. Unfortunately, it will just make the sink useless for the things we really need it for (where sink = imprisonment).

If by "liberal" you mean expanding government intrustion I would agree, but Bush II was really the main perpetrator. I agree with Gnarlodious that decentralization of power is the real issue.
"Conservative" and "liberal" have become meaningless as both parties push for more government power. We need to start looking at where things lie on the Totalitarian - Libertarian scale.

If identifying hateful behavior is conflated with behaving hatefully, then hatefulness can never be objectively discussed. Very clever tactic.

Pointing out double standards, straw man tactics, and inaccuracies is not hateful. It is, at worst, disagreement, and at best, analysis.

Speaking of disgraceful, dishonorable and extreme, what about what Sheriff White did to that Iraq veteran who came out to help when the Sheriff Dept. helicopter crashed in Paradise Hills? About 2 years ago, remember? They got suspicious by the guy's coming out to help (?!), found out he was a marksman in the military, had guns at home; so they arrested him for shooting down the helicopter. He was semi-disabled with PTSD or something, but they kept him in jail for over a year, denied him medical care, then dropped charges and released him. But by then he was totally disabled.

Thank you Sheriff White; serving and protecting.

Yeah, but only one party has made hate its core value. As I've posted elsewhere recently, I still don't see any substantial policy differences between the two major parties but I am reconsidering my refusal to vote for a Democrat or a Republican for president. I have always identified as a Conservative, but the fanatic hatred of the Republican Party scares me.

Writing words down does not increase their accuracy. It just makes them easier to disseminate.
Holding on to the belief that written history is superior does a disservice to those who have risen above their inculcation in conquista values.

I have been in the "not a dime's worth of difference" camp for years; at least since Pres. Clinton. However, the BrownShirt tendencies of the Republican campaign have me seriously thinking about voting for Obama. There are no significant policy differences between the Ds and Rs. But, since we are in danger of an explosion, I would rather elect someone who will use water than one who favors gasoline.
