Every year, our neighbours have a "Gingerbread Demolition Party" after Christmas. It's great. The put a tarp on the kitchen table, layout all the GB houses and the kids have 'em. Cracking and snapping and ripping off every gummy bear they can. Of course there's apple cider and other nibbles while everyone hangs in the kitchen and talks about their holidays. The secret is to have a count down tho'. Have the kids gather 'round and "on you mark, get set, DESTROY Gingerbread!" Good fun.

Re: What are you going to do today, or this weekend, to create joy for someone else?

Oh what a wonderful question! I am hosting a Gingerbread House Making Party on Sunday. I will bake the gingerbread, make the icing and have small dishes of treats laid out. (Egg not lattes and hot choco brewing. Christmas tunes playing!) The girls are coming over, we can decorate, sing and chat...and they will leave having an experience of a child with a special (home made) treat to nibble on. I think it is great to go back to the days of youth and really appreciate the joy of simple pleasures again.

Re: What holiday gifts are you excited about giving this year?

That is so lovely and thoughtful.

Re: Thoughtful Gift Giving for under Fifty Dollars

you are welcome HF!

Re: Thoughtful Gift Giving for under Fifty Dollars

Oh what wonderful suggestions! Being across the country, we wanted to give them a gift that would "give" to them all year long. It proved to be such a treat - on the first of every month, they opened a new envelope. They were very practical gifts (gift cards, recipes, etc,) but wrapped with love and a special note as to the reason we were giving it.
This year, we have put together a box of "Brown paper packages tied up with string, here are a few of our favorite things". Again, a special treat to open each month - everything from Tim Horton's (they live in Ontario!) gift cards, wool with a pattern to knit a coat for our dog that they love, silicon cupcake liners with our favorite muffin recipes, our fav green cleaning products..the list goes on! Now they have something special to open each month, it is useful yet made with love. They cry everytime and we always get a wonderful email on the 2nd of the month (they open them on the 1st!)...which keeps communication alive 3000miles apart.

Re: Who in your own life would you give the title of “Hostess With the Mostess”?

Thank you thank you.

Re: Who in your own life would you give the title of “Hostess With the Mostess”?

C&D - you are beautiful hostess on carrieanddanielle.com...and i love the guests you have invited to blog, but reallllly miss your postings!

Re: Treasure Hunting: Style, Quality and Conscious Consumerism

Great video! It doesn't happen.
HUGE kudos for creating an authentic, passion-filled website (err - BUSINESS!)...I can't wait to celebrate your Oscar, TED wishes and multi-million dollar enterprise.
PS - you have a smart adveritising team because I am often caught clickin' on the side panels!

Re: What expert help or advice would you like?

Oh, without a doubt you should check out Women On Board:
http://www.poca.net/womenonboard.html
A great group of senior leaders who are passionate about the incredible value adding women to their boards brings.

Re: 10, 9, 8… and LAUNCHED!
